More very hate-able commercials

Don’t you think that they’re either compensating people for the loss of their phones or, more likely, not really destroying people’s phones? Did you think in that magic trick in which the magician smashes the audience member’s watch that the watch really is being smashed? (Or that the woman really is being cut in half?)

If it’s for real, then even a top of the line new phone would not compensate me for the loss of data, etc.

Yeah, the commercial is 30 seconds long. At about second 15 he spends a few seconds giving the phones back while saying “Let me give you your phones back.”

I guess I wasn’t clear enough or it could be that I remember the commercial wrong (and I’m too lazy to look it up though that would take less time than typing this out would). As I remember it the commercial was:

Obnoxious commercial guy: Hand me your phones
the Not-Actors hand him their phones
Obnoxious commercial guy “destroys” their phones
Not-Actors have reaction shots showing that they’re “upset”
Obnoxious commercial guy: See how it feels to be not connected?

To me, their reaction (hell, even what would be my similar reaction were I one of the Not-Actors) has fuck all to do with not being connected. It would be about the property loss. “I can’t reach the internet” is not what would be going through my head during that second between when I saw something the woodchipper & when my rational self caught up and realized it was a trick.

Other way around. It’s hunger that makes you stupid, the Milky Way takes care of your hunger.

No, I am pretty sure Milky Way makes you stupid, or else how else to explain the ads?

Could be they’re simply stupid by nature and incapable of doing two things at once. Like eating and whatever else.

I think that’s it-- they’re so consumed with the pleasure of eating a milky way that they can’t do anything else. The Snickers commercials OTOH are more about hunger causing dumbness/irritability/temporary insanity.

I don’t like Rachel Platten to begin with but isn’t it a little early in her career to sell out to an insurance commercial? Or maybe it’s just the right time because she doesn’t expect to have much of a long-term career…

The Pizza Hut commercial with the guy in a full body cast.

Hyundai is running a couple now that just don’t make sense to me. In one, they compare the Elantra to the Civic as a forklift takes the Civic, with the driver still inside, to a car crusher. The other shows a woman sitting in a Sonata while a man in a Camry (I think) is drawn into a machine that is about to chew up the Camry - he leaps out and runs to the back seat of the Sonata.

WTF???

I drive a Sonata and I really like my car, but I’m not sure how this commercial is supposed to make me want to buy a Sonata.

While the Hyundais are still running, other cars are ready for the scrap heap?

Dunno - all of the cars were nice and shiny. But you could be right.

Or possibly Hyundai is running an assassination campaign against Civic drivers?

There’s a series of Papa John’s ads playing now. At the end, it cuts to John and a woman in a pizza kitchen. John says something, then the woman says something. Her voice was pretty poorly overdubbed and I don’t even need to be watching to tell. It booms in.

Her VERY FIRST single was used in a car ad before it ever became ubiquitous on radio.

But I’m hoping so much that maybe they are getting a new spokesperson so that the creepy, lizardy, dead eyes of that dude will stop peering at me out of the TV.

The same annoying song used in three different commercials

There’s an Amazon commercial with a crying teenager and her dad does something silly to cheer her up. Then you see the boyfriend outside with flowers and he’s all “C’mon Amanda!”, or whatever her name is.

Then the dad turns on the sprinklers and lol boys are terrible.

Stupid commercial because if he’s there with flowers trying to get her back, then she broke up with him…why is she crying?

Haven’t seen the commercial, but he could be there to win her back with flowers after he did something bad? Like “I cheated, but I love you and came with flowers to show you” or something?
