Mork and Mindy returns?

With all the revivals and reunions that have been created over the past couple decades, I’m surprised no one has tackled this project. Mork and Mindy was a great show in its heyday, and a bigscreen movie version would be such a wonderful thing.

And the best thing, is that it wouldn’t even have to have a huge budget, as Robin Williams wouldn’t have to be cast. After all, since Orkans age backwards, you would only need Pam Dawber as Mindy, with a middle-aged actor playing her son Mearth, and perhaps a kid as Mork. Think of the possibilities…

“Middle-aged actor?” Maybe, I dunnoh, oh yeah, Robin Williams as the son. “Think of the possibilities…”

Are the words Robin Williams and “wouldn’t have to have a huge budget” exactly mutually exclusive these days???

I think you misread. He said the budget wouldn’t have to be big, because you wouldn’t need Robin Williams.

But I disagree. Robin Williams was the whole show. That, and Pam Dawber’s cuteness. Which probably didn’t survive the last 30 years.

There was nothing inherently funny about the concept. You might as well bring back Alf.

I agree. Without Robin Williams, you’ve got a big bag of nothing.

Perhaps, but then how would one explain Robin Williams looking older and not younger? (Though I hear they can work wonders with CGI these days…)

Alzarian: I suppose you could have Williams playing Mork’s grandson.

Bringing back Alf would be a capital idea. Alf, you see, was funnny whereas Mork & Mindy was not.

Mork and Mindy woulnd’t survive on tv these days. No sex. No drugs. No gay character. No fast cars. No cashflow. No Robin Williams.

It was great years ago but the times have changed.

Alf is back! In pog form.

A show about a 50-something woman married to a teenage boy? I think there’s an audience for that. Mary Kay Letourneau would probably tune in every week.

Alf funny?

Oh, you am from Bizarro world.

And who are you going to get to play Johnathan Winters character of Merth?

Jim Carrey with a few extra pounds on?

They could remake Mork and Mindy if they stretched the plot a little, therefore ruining it. Like for instance, Mork has done something that causes him to age in the proper human way instead of in reverse. Or, more than likely the way tv shows usually work, they’d just “forget” that they said it works that way, and have Mork be aged up with no explanantion.

A remake of Mork and Mindy with the same actors, as a weekly series, would just be depressing and not work well. What would be better (though probably still bomb) would be a MOVIE version of it with a mix of old and new actors. Jim Carrey could play Mork probably, and Robin Williams could play Merth in that version.

Slight hijack, but I’ve similarly always hoped they’d make a Happy Days movie or a Laverne and Shirley movie. Neither would do particularly well with new actors, but it’d still be fun to watch.
