I was going to ask Monty to back up his claim that I am a liar, but frankly, what Monty thinks of me is pretty insignificant. There’s not much point in debating with someone who resorts to personal attacks when ever the debate seems to go his way.
So, Adam, I’m with you–no more long debates over religion. It doesn’t change anyone’s mind. If someone has a question on Mormonism, it’s really easy to find an answer by using a good search engine. You can find both the official Mormon stance and plenty of historical documents to determine if the Mormon church is telling ALL the truth or shading it to appear more like the major Protestant religions.

Allow me to give you some instruction on attack. Attacks that have no basis on meaningless. They are less than air. Imagine, if I called Libertarian a communist. It would be a laughable insult. Lib knows he’s not a communist. I know he’s not a communist. Anybody who has read his threads knows he isn’t a communist. The attack is meaningless. Just spewing forth insults without basis doesn’t mean you have actually insulted anybody, or as we say to the 10th kyus “A punch that hits nothing but air is no punch at all.”

In a probably futile attempt to return to a subject at least in the neighborhood of the OP, I have doctrinal questions as well.
Can the testimony of a husband carry his wife into Heaven? Or a wife for her husband?
Is it doctrinally correct to say that prior to baptism (age 7ish?) the Holy Spirit cannot speak to a person?
Not doctrinal, but I’m curious… Relief Society positions: spirtual living, cultural enhancement - what are the others?
Difference in jobs/authority between the elders quorum president and the bishop of a ward?

Point the first: I opened this thread to debate the basics of what Latter-Day Saints believe, what the validity of those beliefs might be, etc. I specifically requested:
I disagree with a large portion of Mormon theology, and with the historicity of the documents that make up the “extended Scriptures” (to coin a phrase; if there is a commonly-used one, please advise) which LDS use and other Christians do not.
That does not stop me from having the utmost respect for the Mormon missionaries I have met IRL and for Snark and Monty here. Simply said, they are good people, motivated by a hunger for the truth and the love of God and their fellow man.
In my naivete I thought that it might be possible to explore what the evidence was for Mormon claims without snide innuendo and insult. Snark began setting some of that material out before the first great hostility broke out. That was healed; now we are in the second. (Well, maybe second and third; I think Adam had an exchange before I joined the board.)
I’m interested in knowing more about Mormon belief. It took a satori coming on me on a thread about an entirely different topic to bring home to me what was wrong with what I had misunderstood about one Mormon doctrine.
If we can conduct a civil discussion of what it is that Mormons believe and why, then let us proceed to do that. If the only surviving purpose for it is a case of one or two posters showing their hatred of Mormonism, then I formally request David B. to send this thread to the Pit.
Barring the promised rationality from Newt (I still hope it might arrive, but the hope’s fading), I’ll second that, Poly.
