Mornington Crescent

RTFirefly I played that same game but I’m still not sure what was a good move or a bad one. I’m just watching now.

Euston Square is sublime. Luckily, I have East Ham in reserve. Yes, normally this would entail using the Postal lines, but in this case, with Waterloo & City being wild, I can get there using a simple Tyler’s deployment.

Congratulations, Tapioca. A technically perfect Tyler’s which also makes sense strategically. Worthy of Francesca herself! However, since your ‘East Ham’ comes after a previous ‘East’ (‘Hounslow East’), I may now revoke Bassoons and play my beloved…

Northwick Park !

I believe I can now play again with impunity. It’s been a joy watching this game progress and I did smile to see Ianzin jump in with his trademark Northwick Park. I find that we’ve all got to have our own MC styles and my esteemed fellow player certainly has his!

I’m going to do something a little different here and follow on from that with Wimbledon, no wombles.

 don’t you mean badgers?

Oh well, too late to challenge.

Tramlink to Cutty Sark!

Cutty Sark, you say? While the Tranquil Garden Maneuvre has fallen from use lately, I can still appreciate to see it so well performed. However, luckily for me, the situation allows me to blunt it’s impact considerably with Fairlop.

Hi Tapioca. Please, I do know my bassoons from my badgers.

Interesting footnote, the last three moves (Wimbledon, Cutty, Fairlop) form a particularly elegant Hassock’s Trine. For newbies, I should explain that this means these three moves could be played in any sequence without affecting the options available on the next turn! This is extremely rare in MC, and is practically unknown in Master Tournament play. For an excellent analysis of all possible Trines, see Hassock’s original feature article in the 1972 Mornington Crescent Yearbook or, more recently, Hishugara’s computer analysis which was published as an appendix to the Official Results & Tournament Report for the '94 Berlin Open (the only Masters-level tournament at which such a Trine has actually featured in a Grand Final).

Shadwell

I don’t have much to add, only that I call Finchley Central and declare the Northern line null and void under the Rittle New Year adjudication of 1968.

Ianzin, a very pleasant New Year to you sir. Good to see you about.

Okay guys sorry but apparently you haven’t learnt your lesson because no-one has blocked me off still so…

Monument Again!

which (once again) leaves me in contrtol of the river methinks…

Adjudication!

There is no such station as ‘Monument Again’.

According to the rules, the move consists of stating the name of the station, the whole station and nothing but the station, and here on the Boards we use bold type for this purpose.

If Monument alone had been played a second time, it would be a valid move. The second arrival has to via the escalator from Bank, and is considered somewhat inelegant, but there is no reason to disallow it. The sheer ugliness of the move goes to show just why Charing Cross has been shunned since “the change”.
And incorrect syntax is punishable by loss of turn, as in my initial deployment involving Monument.
That also rules out Twist of Fate’s feeble effort of “Finchley Central”
So we are still, in effect, at Shadwell

I’ll use Sherrin’s Behind to get me as far as I can from all this -

Walthalmstow Central

i’m suitably chastened…

No such station. I believe you’re referring to Walthamstow Central.

Now now, lets not get nitpicky. Remember what happened during free-for-all quibbling in the 1977 Werner-Hogg All-In Championship.

Knightsbridge

Wasn’t it after that that they banned people from bringing plastic cutlery to matches?

Victoria

Yes, but it wasn’t due to excessive quibbling.

Arsenal

Ladies and gentlemen…

Mornington Crescent

I thank you. Can you see how I did it?

A hint: it has something to do with the new 2003 All-Star Scandinavia Lotus League Ratings.

Alex

Has no one solved this yet?

I’m not sure if this was the answer you were looking for ianzin, but because B declined stirrups, A was well within his rights to declare Nimoy’s Excuse-Me, retrospectively making all Eastbound moves illegal, and claiming half-points for a Major Quibble. Not very sporting, but certainly allowed at Championship level.

Alex.
