This is the key here. I have known PLENTY of people who have taken a large amount. They didn’t sleep for a couple days, but they did not die.
Ecstacy has speed in it, speed does NOT mix with alcohol. AT ALL. People die from that combination at alarming rates. I freaked out one night from taking two fat-burners and drinking one (yes, ONE) beer, I thought I was having a heart-attack.
Somehow this was ONLY blamed on the pills? This is hogwash and complete idiocy on the coroner’s part, they should have their licence revoked.
It still amazes me that those who are of the mindset that ANY drug that pharmaceutical companies do not sell are immediately bad. I have tried most (except the very dose-sensitive as in drops or crumbs could be the difference between a good time and an emergecy room visit) and they aren’t nearly as horrid as the propagandists say. You need to know (read: trust) your source and research. Make sure you know how to get out of a bad trip. And especially with beans, test them, they have kits available to make sure they are okay.
It was NOT the pills alone that killed him, we’re trying to fight ignorance here.
MDMA is toxic to the liver, so that might have something to do with it. Also, alcohol increases the concentration of MDMA in the blood. Can’t forget extreme dehydration and overheating.
I’ve seen plenty of people take 9 or more pills in one night. Never seen anyone die, though.
Morons, booze, and drugs are as old-fashioned a combo as Grandma, apple pie, and dogs. Heck, the first weekend shift I did as an EMT found a guy who on a dare chugged a fifth of cherry liqueur after swallowing a half-dozen dilaudid tabs. He wandered out of the party and couldn’t be found for a while because he’d fallen into a snowdrift. He went into cardiac arrest and was DOA.
Call me a bad man, but I have no sympathy for the boob in the OP, and his estate/survivors should not be able to sue for spit.
I mean, I’ve done a fucking lot of MDMA… not nine pills in a sitting but 3 or 4 anyway… and I’m talking good shit, complete with magical strobe flashies and love for all things physical and/or visual.
But in my experience anything more than a couple beers completely killed my “roll”.
To be fair, not “completely killed it” but rather any alcohol takes all the edge off and makes it more of a fun buzz than the whole body quiver GOD THIS IS AWESOME shit.
Then again I have done 10 hits of LSD, of six different flavors in a single sitting… so maybe I’m just more hardcore than your average bear, Booboo.
I know many people who have done ten tablets in a night, heck, even Brian Whatsisface from East 17 admitted doing so regularly - I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy had done so several times before his fatal dose.
People do this because the drug’s illegal status leads the proper MDMA (overdoses of which are extemely rare) to be diluted with MDA, DXM, speed or plain baking soda in uncertain proportions. He might have found 9 tablets to give him “maximum buzz” in the past, from a certain batch or dealer. Waddya know, he tries 9 from a different batch or dealer, and the MDMA (or, far more likely, the MDA, DXM or speed) overdose kills him.
A simple 5 minute chemical test (available in some Dutch clubs, I believe) would have told him how many he could take without dying. Mr Duffy may be stupid, but the drug laws on these islands are positively cretinous.
Not just kids. Stupid people and drugs are drawn to each other. I once worked with a 35 year old woman who bought a baggie full of mushrooms (which should’ve lasted a month) and split it with her boyfriend. She was freaking out for a full day. Twit.
I’m all for trying to fight ignorance as much as anyone else here but this doesn’t seem right to me. I know that alcohol combined with opiate based drugs is a doozy – you just kind of forget to stop breathing. But what are you tyring to say here? if anything, I’d say that if youre jacked up on speed (be it coke, meth, or whatever else) a couple drinks might actually be good for you to take the edge off. Alcohol normally slows your heart rate down – While I know a BAC of .267 is also getting near dangerous territory without any ecstacy involved, I’d like to hear what is so inherently dangerous about the combination of speed and alcohol. I’ve known people on coke benders to drink all night long. I’m not saying it’s healthy or good for you, but I think you’re wrong about the combination being more trouble than the sum of it’s parts.
Some brief googling seems to show that while cocaine is not good for anyone, that the liver is not affected anymore than any other part of the body … there can be long term damage from reduced blood flow, from fat deposits, cocaine users are at higher risk for hepatitis so of course thats a problem, but none of these would seemingly be exacerbated by alcohol. If there is some inherent problem with the Liver with speed that I don’t know about, I could buy that answer, but otherwise I’m gonna need a cite for you claim.
According to this site, combining alcohol and X is dangerous because “Ecstasy: MDMA and alcohol both cause dehydration. When used in combination the level of dehydration can be dangerous. Further, MDMA decreases the body¹s ability to regulate body temperature, and alcohol can raise body temperature, increasing chances of death by hypertension.” and "“Using alcohol with other depressants and narcotics compounds the depression of the CNS and can be fatal.” While it’s true that MDMA is not depressant or a narcotic, it’s impossible to tell what else is in your tab. There was a trend some years back of including heroin, speed and strychnine (sp?) in this area - before heroin got so expensive, of course.) You pretty much have to treat X as an unknown, so the usual alcohol related warnings about pretty much *any *drug apply.
But just because it doesn’t *feel *like you’re still affected doesn’t mean your organs and CNS aren’t still affected. This is actually where stupid people put themselves in danger. “Oh shit,” they think. “I killed my buzz - I feel sober now. Should I take another 9 tabs or should I just down this bottle of Everclear?” Meanwhile, the MDMA is still eating holes in your brain, you just can’t tell anymore. The speed is quietly nudging your blood pressure upwards, but the depressant effects of the alcohol make it *feel *like everything’s evened out. Dump on more alcohol that you can’t feel because you’re quietly buzzing from the stimulants you can’t feel, and you end up with stupid dead kids.
Note that I am not an anti-drug crusader. I quite like many of them. I don’t think any of them should be illegal. But they also shouldn’t be used in dangerous combinations by anyone, especially thrill-seeking idiots. (Not you, Eleusis, the dead kid.)
I left as soon as I saw what was happening, but several hours later the couple were naked in the street in front of their house when a police car happened by. Naturally, they hadn’t shut the door to their house, so the cop was able to stroll right in and find a lot of contraband just sitting out in the open. More was found in the subsequent search.
Any cite for your statements? According to the coroner (in an article I can’t link to because it’s on a pay-site), there’s a “fatal limit” of ecstasy and he was well above that limit.

Decades ago, I was handed 4 “Black Beauties” (amphetamine of some sort) by a friend. He meant for me to have one and save the other 3. I ate all four. VERY unpleasant.
