When I move/cut files I’ve downloaded from Kazza and paste them to another folder I can’t use the file anymore. I’m getting an error message that says…
“Access denied…This file is currently in use. Close the file, and then try to perform the desired action again”.
However, If I copy and paste the files, I can still use them, and delete them from the original folder they were downloaded to.
Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of these files that I’ve moved? I can’t access them at all, not even to delete them.
Advice: NEVER EVER use the built in player. always use Winamp for audio and Windows Media/Quicktime/The Playa/Cinematograph/EO video for Video files. (This advice based on experience)
I generally get that message when I attempt to move a file that is being uploaded from my computer by another user. look at your upload screen and find the upload, and wait till its done uploading and try again. or if you’re really impatient and don’t so much care about your sharing karma, cancel the upload and try again.
Also, there’s a few seconds immediately after the file is downloaded that you get the “This file is in use” message. Try waiting a few moments to move it again. I never have any problems moving my files out of the Shared Folder.
One should be able to check the Traffic screen to see if a file is being uploaded or not.
Are you sure Kazaa is completely closed? Even when you click on the X in the upper-right corner, Kazaa keeps running behind-the-scenes. Look in the system tray (or whatever it’s called) in the lower-right corner… if you see the Kazaa logo down there, Kazaa is still running.
To completely close it down, you need to right-click on this icon and select Exit.
I have used Kazaa and its clones on 3 different PCs and 2 versions of Windows. Using the internal player caused all of these PCs to freeze about 1/4 of the time. It usually made me lose all my downloads and have to reboot.
I think the internal player is really Windows Media Player, so I don’t know why it does this.
Deleting the files: Try moving all the ones you want to keep out of the folder and deleting the folder. If that doesn’t work, you will need to do it in DOS. Ask if you need instructions on doing it in DOS.
The problem was that the file name was too long. Open up Command Prompt, head over to the directory where the file is. Do a “dir /x”, which will list the shorter names for the files. Use these names to move or delete.
I don’t know if this is the problem you have though. If that doesn’t work, then try booting in DOS mode and moving or deleting from there.
