Morrison's JLA. Izzat Starro?

OK, as usual, I’m reading ooooold comics.

And I’ve finally gotten my hands on Morrison’s run on JLA. (Earth-2 was just…just…too cool.)

So…I’m up to issues 22 and 23… ‘IT’.

IT…the Conqueror…bears a stong resemblance to Starro.

It looks like a starfish…it has a big red eye in its center…it takes people over by sending a miniature version of itself to attatch to their face…it’s referred to as ‘the Conqueror’…

But they talk about having met it for the first time only a year prior, where it took over Wally. (I don’t have the Secret Files issue where this apparently happened.)

Has Starro - the original Starro - been retconned out of existance (Despite an appearance in the humourous JL title as recently as 1994)? And ISTR a mention (but not appearance) in JLA: Year 1, but I can’t remember if it was in the story or lettercol or the story.

Or are their two different conquering races of giant space starfish out there?

Er… [Emily Litella]Never mind[/EL].

That’ll teach me to post before reading the whole story. Flash just commented on ‘similar creatures that [J’onn] faced with the old League’.

Still, you’d think J’onn or Aquaman would be the first to comment on the similarity, some time before 3/4 of the way through the story.

Here’s the key to writing and enjoying great super-hero work set in the DC and Marvel Universes.

Screw continuity.

–Cliffy, getting the heck out of here before Kurt Busiek or Fenris shows up.
