Most annoying TV and movie characters?

Which part of “doing Mary Ann” was unclear?

Let’s examine the alternatives:

The outside world, where he must compete with every man in the continental United States for Mary Ann’s affections, and where someone will probably point out to her how incredibly smoking hot she is ere long.

or

The Island, where he need only compete with young Gilligan, a rotund ex-navy petty officer, and an inbred Yankee moron for her affections, and where his inadvertent confederate in seduction, Ms. Grant, regularly adds to Mary Ann’s nagging insecurities, thus making her ripe for what she thinks are pity fucks.

Yeah. The Professor was working REAL hard to get off the Island. :dubious:

Any characters who are perfect,Wesley Crusher and the Fonz for example but the total worst had to be Hawkeye from MASH,caring,a rebel against authority, loved by everyone except by uptight arseholes(And even they respected him)a love machine with the ladies and a brilliant surgeon aswell, give me a bucket!

Characters who’s main purpose in SF is to tell us how wonderful we Humans are,Data being one of the biggest arselickers ever to board a starship.

Skald,

What? I have to disagree. The Professor doing Mary Ann or Ginger is laughable. He had the sex drive of a palm tree. Any time either of the girls showed him any interest, he started talking about bugs or something scientific to bore them out of their flirty moods. The one or two shows where they actually touched him sensually he recoiled in horror, practically had a panic attack then ran into the jungle, alone. If anything, maybe he was doing Gilligan, which could explain why he never neutralized the major threat to their escape from the island. Huh, THAT is plausible.

Back to the thread already in progress: Another annoying TV character: the entire cast of “One Day at a Time” except Barbara (Valerie Bertinelli) and possibly Schneider (Pat Harrington). Extra props to the little boy they added near the end of the run. They must have specified “extra irritating” in the casting call.

How about Rhoda’s sister on “Rhoda?” And the guy she ended up marrying. Gad, what a waste of filmstock.

I know someone who used to work with her years ago, before she was on TV. Evidently what you see is how she really is in real life. She and her current husband have been together for over 30 years, with a one-year divorce in there, according to
imdb). The poor man.

Going back a bit, Wendy and Marvin from SuperFriends.

Even as a little kid it was obvious the “team” was dumb. Superman could have done everything himself so much faster but he let Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman have their little bit of glory.

But Wendy and Marvin? In a group where most everybody was worthless, they decided to create a whole new level of worthless, then make the show focus on the WTF?

I can’t stand the whole stock character type of the “wise beyond their years” kid who exudes obnoxiousness from every pore while either leading the befuddled adults to the promised land or demonstrating their superiority over said clueless grown-ups.

These types generally populate “family comedy” dreck which I am usually lucky enough to avoid. However, for me, the worst exemplar of this group of irritating shits is Ellen Page’s charcter from Hard Candy, a film which I actually was motivated to see based on recommendations on the SDMB.

Yes, she’s a good actress. That’s not the point. I don’t think I can actually recall seeing any other movie or TV show where a lead character’s performance was so offputting that I actually started to genuinely loathe her and her ever-so-clever banter to the point of physical discomfort. By the halfway point of the film, I was rooting for the perv!

I was actually still angry and pissed off after the movie ended, which is really kind of fucked up if you think about it…

Alex Drake from the BBC’s Ashes to Ashes really drove me up the wall, especially in the first few episodes. While it’s understandable she thinks the whole thing’s a product of her imagination, she was so annoyingly shrill and condescending about it.

Ugh, I hate that archetype, and I HATED Hard Candy.

It seemed like every Dawson’s Creek little kid character was wise beyond their years. (And yeah, so were the actual main characters.) I wanted to strangle all of them by the end. There was a horrid little boy character played by Jonathan Lipnicki who is mentored by Pacey…awful.

From what I’ve seen of the show, I must agree. Patrick’s utter distaste and hate for sponge bob’s ever pleasant mood is wonderful.
