I was having a happy evening, filled with gumbo and elves. All was particularly well with the world. I was watching “The Addams Family” on YouTube, because that always makes me happy too. (I think they have the most perfect relationship of any couple on television. It gives me hope.)
Anyway, I happened to glance down at the comments. And I saw that someone had written, “if it weren’t for The Addams Family and InvaderZIM, [some sad personal fate which I do not recall would have taken place.]”
InvaderZIM?
I could not resist. I looked it up on wikipedia, and after a paragraph or two, I abandoned that for YouTube, and there you have it. I honestly cannot imagine how I missed this one. It freakin’ rocks!
Invader Zim was indeed amazing, and it’s run was tragically short. If you go in a store like Hot Topic you’ll discover they’re still selling Invader Zim merch. My daughter has a couple of Gir tee-shirts!
Zim: “Something’s broken and it’s not your fault?” GIR: “I know. I’m scared too.”
“There’s WAFFLE in 'em!”
There’s an SDMB member I haven’t seen in a while, whose handle comes from the “Tak: The Hideous New Girl” episode: Filthy Beast of Meat and Hair. I love that name.
Gir may have been my favorite cartoon character ever for a long while, either Gir or Gaz, I go back and forth. The episode where Gaz is fighting the random boy over the new gaming device is one of my favorites. The show was brilliant, funny and really out of place on Nickelodeon.
Jhonen Vasquez is a cool guy, and if you like Zim Johnny The Homicidal Maniac is well worth checking out as is the spin off Squee!
