Most common recurring dreams

The only one I still get is “forgot to go to class all semester”.

The other two I used to get were “teeth start to splinter” and a flying dream. Only it wasn’t really flying, it was more like fluttering downwards really, really slowly, like a feather.

Sort of, but in my version, I’m always trying to slap someone in the face, not punch.

My nightmare-ish dreams either have me going blind/looking through a dim, fuzzy fog, or that I’m trying to stop a car with no brakes, usually it’s in reverse . Sometimes there’s a fall off a cliff at the end of it too. Gives me the willies just thinking about it!

I also occasionally get the ‘waking dream’ thing. Usually it’s when I’m taking a mid-day nap, and it’s as though 1/2 my brain says that I’ve slept long enough and I need to get up now, but the body-control part says nunh-unhh, not yet. So creepy, because I know I open my eyes, I can get glimpses of where I am and feel where I am, but then the dreams drift back in too. Hate it.

I dream about my mom too, who died 9 years ago. I always wake up sad, because in my dream I’m interacting with her like it’s no big deal, but then I wake up thinking Wait! Mom! How are you? I miss you!

The school dream also crops up once a year or so, only now it’s morphed into being late/dressed wrong/unprepared for a horse show :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve never had the teeth dream, or the flying one.

A recurring one I used to have was where I’d be sleeping in bed and that the bed would suddenly levitate/lift-up. I’d sit up in bed in horror as the bed floated to the stairs and was then thrown down all the flights of stairs (with me in it) by some unseen force.

I’m waiting for someone to say, “Yeah, I dream of you getting thrown down several flight of stairs all the time, Count.”

I seem to be looking for an address on street in a strange city. I go in and out of alley ways, then I remember I have get back to where I started the search, but I’m lost and can’t find it.

Often have kissing dreams, the most gentle erotic kisses ever, with clothed women or woman with beautiful puffy pubic hair.

Ah, yes. The car that won’t stop, no matter how hard you stomp on the brakes or pull the handbrake. I can’t believe I forgot that one. That’s probably my third most common dream, now that I’ve been reminded of it.

I wonder why it’s only cars (actually it’s a pickup, more often than not) and not a bicycle or a horse. I spend almost as much time piloting the last two as I do the first.

I have the teeth falling out one on occasion. Sometimes they crack in half, but they don’t ever rot out because I’m a fastidious flosser.

I also have the “late for the exam I didn’t know about” dream. It’s pretty funny that so many people have this one. I wonder if people who didn’t go to college are spared this one…

I often have the “can’t dial the telephone” because I’m shaking so badly one.

Another one that I have fairly often is running away from home for some reason (e.g. I found out that my husband was cheating on me) and having him chase me. It’s always in a car and on a major interstate. I manage to get ahead by a half mile or so and do a U-turn to go in the opposite direction, but he sees me from the other side, so I have to decide quickly whether to exit and try to hide at some stranger’s home or just keep traveling on the interstate with the knowledge that I’m running out of gas. I see him making a U-turn in the rearview mirror…

When you wake up do you make your husband apologize for cheating on you and terrorizing you?

I have a variation of that same dream, only with fish. I used to have an aquarium, and it has been years ago. In my dream I stumble upon a room in my home that for some reason I had forgotten existed and discover that my aquarium is still in there, pump still running, fish still in it and alive even though they havent been cared for in years. This isnt exactly impossible for some of the fish, like the algae eaters and they are huge in my dream and doing well. Some of the other fish have mutated into weird fish forms, though. Some of them now stick their heads out of the water to breath air and some of them are actually crawling around the room, but doing fine. I feed them and discover that there are many more fish than I originally had in the tank, and they are all ravenous. They come from everywhere, under rocks and under the gravel and even from outside of the tank to eat.

It is a weird, but not really disturbing dream.

I have one other recurring dream, and I have been having it for five years. I am traveling somewhere by road, usually walking or riding a bicycle even though I am making a long trip. I usually have my children with me, but still in their childhood form (they are grown now, oldest one thirty). If I am on a bicycle, they are usually riding in a basket. Sometimes I am traveling in this homemade type car, more like a big box but with pedals like a bicycle. I reach the water and my vehicle will suddenly change into a water vehicle, almost raftlike and we continue our journey by water. We are travelling in some kind of channel but somehow we get whisked through the water into a wrong channel that takes us (at this point the water starts really moving fast, and it is kind of scary) and pretty much drops us into the wide ocean. There are a lot of big boats and whales and scary stuff.

I have all the other dreams people have mentioned; the teeth, the test, cant find a bathroom etc.

All the time. Or I try to argue with/shout at the enemy and just end up wheezing at them. I figured out this happened because I was thrashing around/sleep talking in the “real world” when I woke myself up by doing that a few years ago. How do the bad guys react in your dreams? Do they mock you or what? Mine just sit there passively as if the hit didn’t register and they’re waiting on me to take my turn.

My ex and I always end up getting back together. A lot of the time the dream involves waking up and there she is next to me again. In the dream I’m like, “even if the last # months still happened, she’s back, so I’ll take it.” Tends to make for some pretty crappy days.

It’s awesome how common the “forgotten class” dream is. Makes you wonder what the equivalent was in bygone eras Probably something like, “Oh crap, I missed the harvest and now I’m gonna starve over the winter!.”

Anyone ever have dreams where you get killed? Mine usually end right before, but once I got killed in a fight to the death and got to stay around as my ghost. I went to check on my family, and my mom was saying a bunch of religious stuff that made me so angry that I willed myself back into existence. That was pretty neat.

School dream? Yup. Teeth falling out dream? Yup. Can’t find a bathroom (or I find many but something is wrong with every one)? Yup. Car with no brakes? Yup.

The other one I have is where I accidentally go out barefoot, usually to work or something. For whatever odd reason, that dream is awful! I feel vulnerable and exposed… all because I’m barefoot. The really weird thing is that I don’t have any hang ups about my feet nor do I have an aversion to actually being barefoot. It only bothers me in my dreams.

In addition to the school, mouth full of chewing gum and nasty/unusable bathroom dreams, I also dream a lot about trains (probably because 75% of the places where I lived were by train tracks), approaching tornadoes/severe storms, and watching planes crash in slow motion. I also have a recurring and pleasant dream about being at a beach, either in NC or Mexico. And about once every 6-8 weeks I have especially heartwrenching dreams where I’m spending just one more night in my childhood home but in the dream I’m an adult (we moved out unexpectedly when I was 13 and my life wasn’t the same for a loooong time afterward). I wake up crying after those sometimes. I guess the best way to describe the feeling is the Welsh word Hiraeth (even though I didn’t grow up in Wales - does that make sense?)

When I was very young- maybe three, four, five- I used to have nightmares about volcanoes. Possibly partly brought on by certain scenes from Fantasia.

I don’t think I’ve ever had the teeth one.

It took me years to figure out how to fly in dreams. My subconscious just couldn’t suspend disbelief enough.

Oddly enough, in the running-around-with-no-clothes dreams, being naked isn’t “Omigod I’m naked in PUBLIC!” sort of thing. It’s more like a faux pas- like having your underwear showing, or going to a fancy party in beach shorts.

Have to go to class and can’t find it? Check. I also have a variant where I’m in a play, but I don’t know my lines or cues.
Can’t find a bathroom? Check. When I do find a bathroom, I can’t find the privacy- the door doesn’t close, or it doesn’t have a door, or it’s out in the middle of everywhere where everyone can see.
Can’t run away from whatever’s chasing me? Check. I’ve heard that these dreams come from sleep paralysis, though that wouldn’t explain why my arms seem to work fine.

Falling down things. Falling down things. I have an extreme and constantly worsening fear of heights when I’m awake, and when I’m dreaming the very presence of a stairwell is an invitation to falling really fast. And mountain paths.

Oddly enough, dreams where I get killed are the least frightening, because as a ghost nothing can happen to me.

I have alot of dreams about high school, the usual didn’t attend, but am having the final exam thing. I also have alot of dreams about malls for some reason, and the occasional “pee dream.” Does anyone else pee in their sleep because they’re dreaming about a bathroom? This has happened to me three times.

I get face-planted into steps when this is available? This is So unfair…
