Most common song title?

Thanks to the wonders of XM radio, I am now more aware of song titles as they are displayed on my unit for easy viewing. The other day I saw a song called “One” but I didn’t recognize the artist. I realized that U2, Elton John, and Three Dog Night (possibly more) also had songs by that title. “Spy in the House of Love” is also a pretty popular title by multiple artists, each song being different from the other.

So, what song title has been used most often to name original (not remade) songs?

“I Love You”

My Billboard top 100 book (1955-1996) has seven different songs with that title.

Allmusic shows hundreds.

Dreams has been used a fair few times.

Considering the odds of duplicity are greater as the titles get shorter, I woulda guessed Fire…but there are probably many other titles with more commonality.

It did make for a good Cafe Society game a while back:

What, it’s not “Ballad of the Green Beret”?

You can add Faith Hill to that list I think. (My favorite song on the album ‘cry’)

Metallica has “One” on their “…And Justice for All” CD.

Creed also did One, I think.

I don’t know how common it is in general, but in 1985 “The Power of Love” was the title of three different UK chart hits by three different artists - Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Huey Lewis and the News, and Jennifer Rush.

It was an question on a quiz show I saw once, OK?

The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, and Elvis Costello all have songs called “I Want You,” and there are probably others.

The Aphex Twins has a song called Windowlicker, I bet that’ s pretty common.

Oops, I meant Aphex Twin, not “The Aphex Twins”. Wow, I really need to learn how to make better use of the preview post function.
