I’m going to cheat, because I only watched a single episode of most of the new shows mentioned (Last Resort, Revolution, The Mindy Project) before deciding they weren’t for me, so I can’t really say I was disappointed, exactly. I’m going to go with Revenge, because I loved the first season, but this season has been a horrible shitfest.
Last Resort was my big disappointment. I only made it through 2 episodes.
Oddly enough, I have the opposite reaction. I though this season was good but hated last season.
Same here. I made it through about ten minutes of the first episode of Last Resort before I gave up. Too many introductions too fast, with setting up soap opera apparently more urgent to the writers than plot movement.
I lasted about an episode and a half of Revolution. Interesting premise, horrible choice of lead character. Just couldn’t tolerate Princess Bossy Brat enough to spend any more time with her. Seems like her mix of pigheaded stubborn and almost willful stupidity would be very contra-survival in her world.
I did enjoy Awake.
To each his own. Did you watch Season One (American Horror Story) before you started watching Season Two?
That drove me nuts about Revolution. The lead and her brother supposedly came up in this dangerous, post-apocalyptic world, yet still act like two spoiled mallrats. Drove me nuts.
The last straw, though, was the mom subplot - apparently she’d been taken 10 years prior to force secrets from her about the blackout, and only NOW did they decided to start torturing her to make her cooperate? Who feeds and clothes a hostage for 10 years only saying pretty please?
Overall, the problem is that they set the show 15 years after the blackout but wrote the show like it was a year later. None of the adults had aged, no one’s attitude had really changed/hardened, people were still carrying cell-phones and mp3 players - it was a mess. Great premise wasted.
I am disappointed that “The Neighbors,” a rather jokey, juvenile sitcom, is sandwiched between two shows I enjoy: “The Middle” and “Modern Family.”
“Modern Family”
I LOVED prior seasons. I haven’t really laughed at all this year. Either I’m extra irritable (which is possible) or the characters are getting tiresome.
As a Gay guy, it hurts to say that both Partners and The New Normal are/were both pretty horrible - they tried to jump on the Modern Family bandwagon with a Gay couple, but just fell flat with something called humor.
My SO and I have watched all of the episodes of both shows (not to be recommended), hoping for a glimmer of promise to come in future episodes, but sadly found none. Partners has been deservedly canceled and The New Normal is probably not far from getting the well-deserved ax.
Such a show can be done, and the writing on Modern Family proves you can have a funny, but sane Gay couple - but I guess there just aren’t enough talented writers out there to pull this off easily.
I had high hopes for Revolution and Last Resort. I only made it through two episodes of the former, and Last Resort was getting bad reviews before I even had a chance to watch it so I ended up deleting it unwatched from my DVR.
Besides the failures in the comedy, I find it difficult to watch because of Chris Messina. I hated him on Six Feet Under and I can’t get that character out of my mind.
After the Golden Globe Awards, I thought I’d give HBO’s Girls a try. I made it through one and a half episodes before throwing a shoe at the TV. I guess I’m too old to relate to the cliched story of young women trying to make it in NYC. It’s been done to death in both film and television. The only real difference is that these are not likable or attractive characters, and most of them speak with that annoying and grating vocal fry. Being unattractive doesn’t bother me, other than I really don’t want to see them naked.
I had high hopes for Copper, since I like historical dramas and thought the premise had a lot of promise. Sadly it sucks. Happily, someone on the Dope pointed out Ripper Street which is almost exactly the same show, done well.
How I met Your Mother has gotten surprisingly terrible this season. Glad to see they’re putting it out to pasture.
I watched 2 or 3 episodes, as well as her horrible movie Tiny Furniture, before I gave up. Shallow, spoiled, whiny characters with no problems I could relate to. As some comedian said on Twitter after the Golden Globes, “Lena Dunham proves you can achieve anything with tons of money.”
Hmmm. I like The Mindy Project, and I had low expectations for it. I don’t like Revolution, but I thought it would suck from the moment I read the premise so I’m not disappointed.
What I am disappointed with are Fringe and Supernatural this season. Wow, lackluster, especially Fringe who has so far been going out with a whimper rather than a bang.
666 Park Avenue. Interesting premise, interesting cast…I didn’t make it to the first commercial break.
2 Broke Girls - see above
No, there’s another season after this one. But having said that, the wedding where he meets the Mother is set for May 25th 2013, which is this season’s finale, so that means season 9 will include her as a member of the cast, presumably.
I like Supernatural but they should have ended the series a couple of seasons ago. The CW seems to be using it to fill a timeslot now.
“How I Met Your Mother” has been the quickest drop in quality I think I have ever seen. It truly is appalling now. It was never high art, but at least it was funny. I’m only watching it now to see how the damn thing ends.
“Fringe” should have either extended the main storyline for another half season or ended at the end of last season. This season is a completely different main story, it isn’t “Fringe”.
I never had any hope for The Neighbors, so I can’t say I’m disappointed. I agree about the sandwiching, as I tend to watch this on a non-cable TV so I have limited switching choices.
Revolution could have been good, but I knew from the promos that it would be just too clean. And I was right. I’m also one who wanted to like Andre Braugher’s Last Resort, but it sucked.
I’m not disappointed in anything else, but that’s because I thought most new shows would suck or at least fail to catch my attention, and I was right. And most of the shows that I regularly watch are still on an even keel - hard to be disappointed in Burn Notice when you already know it’s going to be bad and you are just watching it for Bruce Campbell to ham up his scenes.
