Disturbing films:
The Exorcist
Doom Generation
DeadAlive
Picnic at Hanging Rock (maybe not disturbing, but certainly eerie)
The Cemetery Man
I know the last name of the guy who was in Bad Ronald was Jacoby, but I can’t remember his first name.

StStella: When I was a kid, in the late 70’s there was a movie on late at night about snakes. I can’t remember details, but the gyst of it was that people were drinking venom in order to become immune to cobra bites. They started to turn into snakes instead. One of the first changes is that they would start to shed their skin, while still human, it really gave me the willies.
I have been looking for this movie on VHS for 15 years at least. Actually, a doctor that milked snakes for their venom, wanted to change people into something that would survive when civilization fell. He was giving the assistants shots that he said were antivenom. One failed trial is found in a circus sideshow as the snake man. The last guy is changed into a cobra and kills the doctor.
Gateway: I saw “Henry”, and yes, way creepy and distrubing. Mostly because it’s probably closer to the truth than we wanna think about…
“Henry” was indeed VERY disturbing, mostly because it’s all shot in documentary style. A similar movie is the Belgian gem “C’est arrivé pres de ches vous” (“It happened right next door”, translated very loosely). A black and white documentary style flick about a gang of people killing for fun. The break-in-and rape scene is stomach-turning.
“Seven” should definately be mentioned. It didn’t make me sick, but it sure made me VERY silent and kinda depressed, while downing a few beers afterwards with a friend.
And, related: most people find “Braindead” by New Zealand director Peter Jackson very gory and disgusting, to me it was also a GREAT laugh all the way. Another must-see from the same director “Heavenly Creatures”, very eerie, and incidently (one of the) first movie(s) starring Kate Winslet. And YES, she can act, contrary to what one might conclude from Titanic

Coldfire, here in the States, “C’est arrivé pres de ches vous” was shown and marketed under the title “Man Bites Dog,” in case anyone is interested in seeing it. Frankly, I thought it was contrived and not very good, nowhere near as good as “Henry.”
Huh, that should have been “… pres de cheZ vous”. Not your fault, PL, I made the first mistake
No it wasn’t as good as Henry, but that rape-scene was pretty gross though.

Phobia, the movie you’re talking about is “SSSSSSSSS” starring the immortal Strother Martin (“What we have here, is failure…to communicate”) as the mad scientist.
I remember seeing this movie when I was in a, um, chemically enhanced state (no, this doesn’t mean New Jersey), shall we say. It was pretty freaky. My suggestion would be to watch for it on late night TV or on Sci-Fi.
Plunging like stones from a slingshot on Mars.
Most of the movies that have “disturbed” me are ones that have already been mentioned (Seven, A Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting, Bastard Out Of Carolina). One movie not mentioned that freaked me out was “The Accused”. Most of the movie was kind of banal, but the rape scene in the bar made me cry pretty hysterically the first time I saw it.

I too have seen Threads, the British nuclear war film. Anyone who says we should “nuke” another country for any reason needs to see Threads and think about it some more. The last scene is truly haunting.
I saw Trilogy of Terror on TV when I was about 10; I remember standing by the TV (no remote controls back then), flipping to another channel briefly, then back again as soon as I could stand it.
I actually had a “Blair Witch Project”-related nightmare before seeing the movie. It was truly weird in that it was black-and-white, unlike most of my dreams, and was filled with the dread that something awful was going to happen, although nothing really did. Strange, eh?
I remember seeing Candyman in the theater with a date who was truly freaked by it; I had a lot of fun looking behind her with a shocked expression for the rest of the night.
It takes a lot to get me these days; Seven and 8MM were okay, but didn’t quite ring the bell. Maybe I need to get that copy of Guinea Pig I’ve been eyeing.
You found a copy of Guinea pig? It took me forever to find Cannibal Holocaust and Men Behind the Sun.
Where did you find Guinea Pig?
Don’t let the loveless ones sell you a world wrapped in grey.
Re: Guinea Pig. Found it for sale at www.revok.com. They deal in a lot of films that are in questionable taste and apparently aren’t covered by US copyright laws. I’m debating whether it’s worth the price to buy sight-unseen.
What is Guinea PiG? (I’m looking at the website now trying to find it)
I am #1. Everyone else is #2 or lower.
Guinea Pig is a movie that simulates a snuff film, a samurai and a captive woman. It had to be investigated because it looked rather real.

I would have to say that the most disturbing thing I’ve seen in a film was in The Exorcist. The way they tested poor little Regean before they realized she was possessed was truly naseating. And to think they really do test people like that!
H.P. is great!!! His descriptions of the places in New England are right on the money, I know I live there.
Cowboy Greg said Twelve Monkeys. It wasn’t so much that it was was disturbing, it just really made you think.
I agree with Saving Private Ryan
I also want to add a movie I saw last night called Soldier with Kurt Russel (of all people!).
Also, at the end of Scream when those two guys start stabbing each other.
Plus, I don’t know why, but skeletons really creep me out.

SOLDIER ?? Hello ? I’m sure it was disturbing in a “I-want-my-goddamn-money-back” kind of way…
I’m sure you thought you were posting to the “Worst Movies” thread
