Most expensive single virtual item

I was doing some math in Angry Birds Go! and I realized the most expensive go-kart for sale costs $150 (6,500 gems for $100 + 2,500 gems for $50 = 9000 gems). This seems crazy, especially considering that all the karts are upgradeable, and the expensive karts only had marginally better stats.

I’m sure there are even more extreme examples though. What’s the single most expensive virtual item you have ever seen? Bonus points if it’s completely useless or really ugly. I’m more interested in legitimate sales by the game company itself (though I expect the highest price will be for an Eve Titan or similar).

While Diablo3’s real-money auction house was active people were paying the max $250 for some items, it seems. That was officially sanctioned by the company selling the game.

Blizzard also sells generally horrible mounts, helms, etc for WoW but those typically only go for $10-25.

I recall hearing a story about some monocle in Eve that was $1000 or $10000. Never verified it, but if it’s true, that’s completely out of hand.

bitcoin’s at ~$650 right now.

Virtual Goods That Cost Big, Real Money: Neverdie Virtual Club, $635,000
Not sure about the most expensive item sold by an actual company though.

The Titan on Eve goes for enough to buy a real car.

How successful have people been trying to liquidate their EVE holdings?

Yup. The RMAH in Diablo 3 paid for my kids Christmas a couple of years ago.

The 5 Most Absurdly Expensive Items in Online Gaming. The above-mentioned monocle is on the list, but it was “only” $60. Cheap compared to other items on the list, but expensive when you consider that it’s a few pixels that modifies one tiny part of your character’s appearance, and has no practical use whatsoever. Right up there with horse armor that doesn’t actually protect your horse.
