Most gruesome murder in a horror movie?

Just watched a wretched piece of shit called ICE FROM THE SUN. In it, dude chains a naked woman to the bumper of his pickup, then drags her down a gravel road. After that, he dumps a fifty-pound bag of rock salt on her and finally drives over her head with his tire.

One that springs to mind right now is in Ghost Ship…

SPOILER AHEAD!

The bit where the Italian singer gets killed by the hook on the chain. It swings though the air, digs into her neck and hoists her up! Gruesome!

Herge, we actually have coding for spoilers. Just for the record, I mean, you couldn’t have paid me to see Ghost Ship.

I’d say the most gruesome I’ve seen in a movie is in Day of the Dead, when one of the military guys gets torn apart by zombies.

The Dentist 2 - the way Dr. Feinstone wears down the fat woman is a bit over the top.

Not particulary a horror film but in Body Double a woman is drilled with a 2 inch wide drill bit. Classically we don’t see it but the main character is one floor below and he sees the drill come through the celing.

Ugh.

I don’t think anything could be grosser than in The Thing when that dude’s head drips off his body, grows spider legs, and runs away.

Hellraiser… The final scene “Jesus Wept”… just eww.
Day of the Dead A head removed using the eye sockets as finger holds.

Al Pacino in Scarface was pretty gruesome.

He chains a person to the shower bar in the tub and uses a chainsaw to dismember them

It was even more gruesome for the actors involved. Check out the imdb trivia entry.

I’d say some of the deaths in Peter Jackson’s Brain Damage/DeadAlive (the movie’s name depends on what country you look for it in). Zombies eviscerate lots of party guests and some of the humans fight back all in cartoonishly gruesome fashion. Too many to single out but the scene late in the flick involving Rita and the Baby springs to mind. You’ll know it if you see it.

There are some deaths in Italian horror and giallo films that someone who knows more about that genre could probably name, but the one I think of right off is a woman being impaled during Lucio Fulci’s House By The Cemetery that seemed more gruesome than most to me because of the drawn out nature of the murder and the intensity of the woman’s screams.

Although he wasn’t quite dead (yet), I don’t even want to think about what Sloth went through in Se7en.

The Japanese film, Audition:

The woman/murderess paralyzes the main character with something. It leaves him unable to move, but able to feel pain. She then spends about 20 minutes sliding long needles into the most sensitive parts of his body, including his eyes and major organs. She then saws off one of his feet with some sort of wire. And the worst part is, she’s singing happily throughout the whole ordeal, as though she’s sewing a quilt or something.

But then, maybe that doesn’t count, because it’s not clear whether or not the poor bastard died after all that.

no mention of Hershell Gordon Lewis films?!?!

OR “Make Then Die Slowly”?

also, are we counting killing of zombies?

Although presented in such an over-the-top fashion that it’s more funny than gruesome, Peter Jackson’s Bad Taste has a particularly unpleasant end for the head alien dude.

Our hero spies the alien through a hole in the floor. With chainsaw at the ready he leaps on top of the alien and chainsaws his way through it’s head, travels through the body and comes out of it’s groin. What’s really funny is that the alien manages to stay standing for the entire ordeal.

Return to your roots, Peter! C-grade horror movies haven’t been the same without you.

Hey, I’ll mention HG Lewis!

How about 2,000 Maniacs, either the “Barrell Roll” or the “Horse Race”? Or perhaps The Wizard of Gore, with the amazing “Spike-through-the-head Trick”? Or, my personal favourite movie ever, The Gore Gore Girls…jesus, which death to pick? Girl killed by meat tenderizer to the ass? Girl killed by having face burnt off with iron & nipples clipped off with scissors? Girl killed by having face boiled off in french fry oil?

I heart Herschell Gordon Lewis.

Holy Crap!

Herschell Gordon Lewis.

I’m a direct marketer and I’ve been to a couple of his copywriting/direct marketing lectures. I never thought for an instant that he did anything else but direct marketing.

His name in this post sent me scrambling for IMDB.com.

It’s the same frickin’ guy! Holy!

I’m scheduled to attend one of his seminars in October. I’ll mention this to him.

I remember seeing one of the Hellraiser films in which a girl sleeps with the owner of some club and then gets dumped by said club owner. She jumps out of bed and stands in front of this creepy statue and yells at the guy… and just then, the creepy statue throws out these hook things, rips off all of her skin, leaves her skinless for a couple of seconds and then eats her in one bite. Very creepy. Didn’t want to see it, was about 12 at the time, left some scars.

I remember in one of the Friday the 13th movies, a guy was standing on a boat dock while you-know-who was underneath in the water, and the poor slob on the dock took a speargun shot to the groin that came out the top of his head! Eeew!
