Most horrifying use of music in a commercial

I’ve somehow missed this one. Both Vince Guaraldi and Sparky Schultz are spinning in their graves.

Not sure about horrifying, but Citroen have recently started using the happy Days theme, as well as CGI-ing some of the characters into various inane and pointless situations in the commercial. The whole thing just reeks of an ignorant attempt to cash in something familiar. Buh.

My son (only 5) was so excited that Charlie Brown was coming on.
Unfortunately I had to let him know it was just a dumb car commercial.

Oh, I’m changing my vote. I think several hundred thousand WWII veterans of quite a few nationalities spinning in their graves beats Vince and Sparky by a long shot.

Actually, I was just thinking of Marlene spinning in her grave–she was a heroic anti-Nazi, and Mercedes-Benz was noted for its shady doings during WWII. Not that I blame the current employees, but it seems like Mawia was just posthumously twisting the knife (after penning a Mommie Dearest-esque matricidal book).

I thought the use of Janis Joplin singing “Oh lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz” to sell Mercedes Benz’s was like if the plastics industry used that scene from “The Graduate” as a recruiting tool.

Ah…I forgot about the Mercedes/Nazi doin’s…

I don’t know how horrifying this is, because I can’t stop singing it to myself but,

I forget which car company it is that’s using Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life” to convey that their vehicle is suitable for fun, energetic people.

Actually, it’s a cruise line–a family cruise line.

I believe the car commercial you’re referring to was the one that used the opening to the Velvet Underground’s “Heroin”.

This kind of thing is getting so common that I’m not even outraged anymore; I just feel tired. But Jaguar using “London Calling” pissed me off slightly more than most of these.

Then again, Ford Motor Company using “Linus & Lucy” irks me mightily as well; just by the by, if anyone wants to send them an e-mail, you can do it from here.

Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” used as a patriotic anthem for Wranglers jeans. “Some folks are born made to wave the flag, Ooh, that red, white, and blue…” End scene. Never mind that the next line is “But when the band plays ‘Hail to the Chief’, ooh they point the cannon at you. I can understand Iggy and the Stooges slipping by under the radar (though it’s still mind-boggling to watch that CArnival Cruise comercial”), but how many people think CCR was singing “Stars and Stripes Forever”?

I don’t know if it’s horrifying, but I’ve seldom felt so insulted by a commercial as when Wrangler used fragments of “Fortunate Son” as if it were a simple flag-waving song.

(And a common practice I hate, regardless of the aptness of the song, is when they use a jigsaw approach, lifting out some lines and having the refrain come in a verse too early. I’ve heard this done with a number of songs, and it’s jarring.)

I thought it was interesting, to say the least, when Toyota used the Colonel Bogey March.

Mawia Wiva sounds like a name “Pwincess Pwecious” would choose.

Some of the worst music editing I’ve ever heard was committed by US Post Office. The mangled Steve Miller’s song so it went “Fly like an eagle/into the future…”

I came into the thread to talk about the CCR jeans commercial. God, that was awful! As if everyone listening to the song wasn’t singing along and reaching the next line?
