I can’t believe this thread has gotten this far without mention of Diane Chambers from Cheers. I wanted to pull out my own intestines and strangle her with them.
And another vote for Marie Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond.
And the recurring “horny old woman” character of various shows:
Rue McLanahan from Golden Girls, Audra Lindley from Three’s Company, and Katherine Helmond from Who’s the Boss? amongst others. They just made me feel dirty. And not in the good way.
The character that came to my mind was the little mechanical dog from Battlestar Galactica that could always be counted on to run out barking whenver the kid was hiding from Cylons. I guess because it was an immediate indicator of just how bad the show was going to suck.
And I’ll second Twiggy on Buck Rogers for the same reason.
Almost as soon as I saw them, I imagined both being smashed to rubble. That was nice.
That was the name of the bratty cousin on The Brady Bunch . At the time I just wanted to smack him, but now I realize that his appearance was actually the writers surrendering.
What? We’ve run out of gag plot lines for SIX kids? Have we used up all the live-in maid plotlines too? Well, hell, let’s just have some “cousin” magically appear. The catch? He’ll be blond and wear glasses!
FTR, it has nothing to do with Wil Wheaton. I’ve seen him other things (like Stand By Me, and other TV stuff) and found him believable, even quite good…
It’s the Trek Writers (and even The Great Bird of the Galaxy himself) totally ruining any chance that character (Wesley) had of being a bright spot in the Trekkerverse. He became a total cliche. The Anti-Gilligan. Trekkers got fed up.
Ask any Trekker. If not a outright hostility, then usually complete indifference to anything concerning that character.
They’re in danger of that doing that to T’Pol in Enterprise. Just read some of the comments in our really long and geeky threads, decode them, and you’ll see what I mean.
I have to agree about the Wesley Crusher character.
Now, don’t smack me when I say this, but Brent Spiner in any role outside ‘Data’ makes my skin crawl. He’s just too over the top and broadway-ish for me. I love Data, though.
Sometimes Scott Bakula (Capt. Archer on ‘Enterprise’ and Sam Beckett on ‘Quantum Leap’) does the same but he seems to have become more realistic.
Another vote for Dr. Zachary Smith on Lost In Space. Irritating beyond all tolerance.
I can see I’m going to risk public crucifixion by saying this, but the only thing I watch Will and Grace for is Megan Mullaly’s 's protrayal of Karen! I think she’s a very gifted comic actress playing a very funny character and doing it well. The rest of the characters, especially tiresome human wart Jack, I can do without.
Wesley Crusher was a gimp, but for my money the most irritating character 0n "Next Generation’ was Counselor "Cleavage’ Troi. At least the writers wised up and wrote Wes out after a few years. Counselor Cleavage hung on to the bitter end, and still appears in the movies. And for what??? What the hell did she ever do on that show, except state blindingly obvious remarks? (“We have to get out of here!” “The Romulan Commander cannot be trusted!”)
I suppose it should go without saying that the entire cast of ‘Voyager’ was a bunch of irritating, cardboard bores, but special mention ought to be made of Neelix & Kes, the two most pathetic, dumb, and useless characters in the entire Star Trek universe. And THAT is saying something!
Yes!!! I agree wholeheartedly. People that you would run from in real life and yet, they make for “good tv”? (disclaimer, I don’t watch very much TV, so I may not have a good “feel” for what IS “good TV”).
Also, Lenny and Squiggy from the old Laverne and Shirley show. It’s been years, but I still remember that annoying “Heellooo”?
Gladly! I forget how much I detest all his characters until I inadvertantly come across some piece of ridiculous crap that he has ‘acted’ in. What a schmuck.
Also the Roadrunner. Hated that bird as a kid and still hate it today. Just let the coyote eat the 'beep-beep’ing freak already!
