Most Quotable Films and Television Shows

What movies and TV shows do you quote most often with friends or perfect strangers?

Mine?

TV
Simpsons
Seinfeld

Movies
Vacation
Animal House
Caddy Shack 2 (yes, Part 2!)
Coming to America
So I Married an Ax Murderer

Monty Python (shows and movies)

Movies: Full Metal Jacket, The Godfather, Aladdin

TV: I tend to quote Mr. Rodgers and The Simpsons

I can spend an entire day quoting only Ghostbusters, The Big Lebowski, Clerks, and Office Space. If everyone I talk to has seen these movies, they inevitably know exactly what I am talking about.

Dunno, I was on a “Clerks” quoting rampage for a while, along with “Mallrats.” TV— hmm, prolly “Twin Peaks” the odd “Simpsons” quote and many Seinfeld-isms (though no direct quotes).

I have a tendency to quote whatever movie I’ve seen most recently. When I watched the original Star Wars trilogy last year, I was talking like Yoda for weeks. Drove people nuts! Then when I watched Episode I, it was JarJar. I think that was worse, lol.

The biggest one has to be Wayne’s World. I still use “Pshah, and monkey’s might fly outta my butt!” all the time.

My big movies for quotes are The Princess Bride, Office Space and Undercover Blues. Occasionally The Dream Team. That’s about it.

I don’t have good enough quote memory to regularly quote TV shows or movies, but I’ve noticed that Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the show) is just loaded with potential quote material.

Oh, and another reason I rarely quote is that nobody ever gets it. I quoted a very recognizable Simpsons line the other day and received only blank stares in return. I don’t particularly enjoy the “What the Hell are you talking about?” look.

Maybe you need to hang out with different people? Just a thought.

My brothers love to quote Midnight Run, the movie with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin. Princess Bride is also good. And also the movie Clue, especially the Madeline Kahn line about flames coming out of her eyes, or whatever it is.

For shows, nothing really touches the Simpsons and Monty Python.

My most recent is Army of Darkness.

I forced my wife to watch it with me. She got me back by giving me the DVD for my birthday.

Course I spent whole years in college reciting Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

The Simpsons, of course, and the beauty of that is that most people will get it!

I also quote MST3K a lot. Those references tend to be a lot more obscure than the Simpsons quotes…

My favourite movie quote, and I unfortunately must use it endlessly, is “What we have here, is a failure to communicate.” What a great flick…

The Godfather, Animal House and Airplane!

In terms of older movies, what can beat Casablanca for lines that have made it into common vernacular:

Play it again, Sam (okay, never actually said in the movie, but made famous through the movie)
(Round up) the usual suspects
I’m shocked, shocked! (to find gambling in this establishment)
This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship
We’ll always have Paris
Here’s looking at you, Kid
I stick my neck out for nobody

The list goes on and on…in terms of durability, some of the lines have faded, but they have lasted a lot longer than most…

I love Casablanca. I absolutely love Claude Rains in that.
“It is a little game we play. They put it on the bill, I tear the bill up. It is very convenient…”

Ooner…what Simpsons quote did you use?

For me…always the Simpsons…I tend to think in Simpsons…the quotes fly out of my mouth regardless of whether or not they fit the situation…kind of makes me feel like Ralph “Go Banana” Wiggum.

Buffy-I’m working very hard to get “That’ll put marzipan in your pie plate, Bingo!” Into my everyday banter.

Twin Peaks
Absolutely Fabulous
The State
Thundercats
MST3K-Particularly episodes involving Gamera or Fugitive Aliens.
Movies-

The Princess Bride is the most quotable movie of all time. Just about every single line is quotable!
