Who are the most successful Botticelli players here on the Dope? Might be interesting to create a leaderboard.
It’s a small enough pool of players, I suspect we’ve all had our turn in the Winner’s Circle.
It’s a difficult question, and the answer depends on how you wish to measure success. Most correct guesses through IQs? Most ‘endgames’ as ‘chooser’ where the ‘guessers’ give up? Most ‘stumps’ on IQs?
I would say, without resorting to statistical analysis, that Elendil’s Heir has the most remarkable knack for posing cryptic references to famous characters. Any time I’ve been ‘chooser’, I get a chill in the pit of my stomach when I refresh the page and discover he’s the last poster. “Uh oh, here comes at least one sure DQ.” Even when I can figure out the answer, it’s like the difference between a North American crossword puzzle and a London Times cryptic crossword.
I’m still learning to find the sweet spot, as ‘chooser’, between too easy and too obscure. On the whole, I think too easy is still more satisfying for the ‘guessers.’
One of the things I love about this game is the way that it is truly a team effort - with each DQ, you have the chance to advance the clues so that someone, not necessarily you, will benefit. This is a great group to play with, too - erudite, with varying specialties.
Just some random thoughts provoked by your question, etv78
What I meant by “successful”: The person with the most solved puzzles.
We’ve been at this pretty continuously for at least three years or so - if you want to go back and count 'em up, God bless you!
