Mother and daughter cast in similar roles (or father / son)

It’s arguable that Charlie Sheen played a (partial) parody of Martin’s role when he did* Hot Shots*. Martin even did a cameo.

Didn’t Emilio Estevez guest star on Two and a Half Men? I wasn’t a regular watcher of the show, but IIRC, Estevez didn’t play Charlie Sheen’s character’s brother, and that was the joke?

See posts 11 and 12.

Emilio played Charlie’s old partying/drinking buddy, who drops dead at Charlie’s house. It included the dialog:

Charlie: He was the brother I never had.
Alan: What about me?
Charile: You’re the brother I never wanted!

Tarek Sharif (Omar’s son) played the 8 year old Yuri in Dr. Zhivago.

Along those lines, Lecy Goranson played Becky for most of the run of Roseanne, but Sarah Chalke stepped into the role for a couple of season, then Goranson returned. After Goranson returned, there was a scene where Chalke played a mother who came by trick-or-treating with her children, and Roseanne had a line that went something like “What a sweet girl; I wish we had a daughter like her.”

^It seemed rather creepy in the opening credits when they morphed Goranson into Chalke then back to Goranson. Sarah Chalke was too sweet for that role.

They also played the same character on an episode of NCIS.

Liza Minnelliplayed Judy Garland’s infant daughter in “In the Good Old Summertime.”

In the movie Thunder Road, Robert Mitchum’s son James played his younger brother, both moonshine runners.

There’s no point in mentioning Brandon Lee, right?

Closer to the point of this thread, Liza Minelli voiced Dorothy Gale in the animated 1974 film Journey Back to Oz. (Her mom, of course, was the most famous Dorothy)

How about June and Anne Lockhart playing the old and young versions of Eunice St. Clair in Troll?

The first one that came to my mind was Patrick and John Wayne, and for that matter Harry Carry Sr. and Harry Carry Jr. Like the two Waynes both actors specialized in Western roles. Senior was a star and his son never reached that status. Now that I think about it; Western character actors Noah Beery Sr and Jr. too.

Also, Lon and Lon Chaney Jr. Senior made character acting an art form.

Sean Flynn copied his famous father Errol Flynn in Son of Captain Blood.

Sorry about the repeat on Lon Chaney.

Bumping to mention Laurie Metcalf and her daughter Zoe Perry, who have both played Jackie Harris, and now Mary Cooper–Metcalf on The Big Bang Theory and Perry on Young Sheldon

Not just the same character - the same character in the same episode:Canton Everett Delaware III in “The Impossible Astronaut” (no, he wasn’t the astronaut, he was an ex-FBI agent kicked out of the force for wanting to marry a black man.)

James Doohan played Scotty on Star Trek. His son Chris played the same role in Star Trek Continues. (Kind of spooky actually.)

In MASH*, Donald Sutherland played a doctor in an army hospital.
In Article 99, Keifer Sutherland played a doctor in a V.A. hospital.
In one scene, Keifer dons a bucket hat similar to the one his father wore in the first movie.

Sea captains
John Wayne: Reap the Wild Wind, The Sea Chase
Patrick Wayne: Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger

Asian stereotypes
John Wayne: The Conqueror
Patrick Wayne: Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger

Desi Arnaz Junior played his real life Dad in the (fictional) movie “The Mambo Kings.”
