Mother twice arrested for theft
DETROIT – Two Canadian women were caught trying to sneak nearly $73,000 into the U.S. by hiding the bulk of the loot —$59,000 — in their bras, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Detroit federal court."
While it is possible that some or all of the money was stolen, there have been similar cases where the money in question was the bulk of their life savings; where they didn’t announce it to custom inspectors because they were afraid of it being stolen by corrupt officials and the money ended up being confiscated.
It’s a shame that they have such mistrust for government officials that they’re forced to resort to such tactics just to avoid being robbed. I hope that if it’s really their money they aren’t punished for this.
