Mother or Child?

In the abscence of any previous instructions if an emergency occured with a pregnant woman, would the doctor save the mother or the child?

Could instructions be given to “save the child”? Or mother for that matter? anyone know how this works?

I believe they are obligated by law to save the the mother, as the child is not considered a person until it’s born (though in California, that’s not true in the case of murder). I’d venture to guess that if the mother didn’t have much of a chance of survival, they’d go for the child first.

I made sure that the doctors knew what we wanted before each birth. This was 68- 74 and they did not hsave a problem with it. Oklahoma.
