Mother Teresa, patron of what?

If Mother Teresa is canonized, which will probably happen, what would she most likely be the patron of?

I would suppose that, considering her popularity throughout the Roman Catholic Church and, for that matter, the world, it would be something grand, like poverty, charity, humility, or something.

I don’t have my copy of Saints Preserve Us! on me, but I suspect those pursuits have been covered by other saints, like Francis Xavier. She might become patroness of some micro-specific ailment, like Dengue fever or malnutrition.

According to the nuns I know (I know many nuns, because there are several in my family and nuns are like cats - they tend to proliferate wherever they find someone crazy enough to welcome the first one in), she should be patron saint of taking advantage of the sisters in her order. According to these nuns, Mother Teresa traveled the world living high on the hog while her minions lived in extreme poverty. She hoarded the money that was meant to help her mission and encouraged the poor to have more babies because more babies meant more money for “The Bitch”.

And don’t get them started on Ghandi…

Mmmmm . . .

Patron saint of welfare mothers?

Corporate thieves?

Dictators?

Hypocrites?

Torturers of the sick and dying?

. . . I could go on and on . . .

(A) Objectively, a canonized person need not be the “patron saint” of anything beyond the community of his/her particular devotees, their order (if any), their places of birth/death/work and parishes dedicated in their honor. Or s/he may be lumped together with a bunch of others with similar associations as some sort of “collective” patronage. So MTofC may end up sharing with whoever holds it already the post of Patron Saint of West Bengal, Skopje(*), founders of Religious Orders, deductible charitable donations, and homeless shelters; and maybe get assigned the patronage of expatriate ethnic Albanians, redistribution of wealth, and of women-who-avoid-birth-control-even-though-they-could-hardly-afford-more-kids.

(B) Damn it only took two posts to start with the attacks, and that was one more than I expected

Didn’t someone magically find an image of her face in a muffin? She could be patron saint of muffins.

I think we should be able to order a super-sized Egg McTeresa meal.

Overpopulation.

The whole time she worked with the poor she was telling them not to use contraception, handily providing her with a built-in market.
