How many people know such mothers? Ten or more kids; and the mother, and almost certainly the father as well, want it that way. (I sometimes get the idea that motherhood and heterosexuality are often regarded as an infrigment of the rights of women and gays.)
One of my aunts has 10 kids (she married a Catholic). The other aunt has many. Could be 10, could be less, but I don’t know. My dad and one uncle each had 2 kids. I don’t know if my other uncle had any kids of his own.
To quote the great Groucho Marx (who was being quoted by the no-less-great Cecil Adams):
“Lady, I love my cigar, but I take it out of my mouth once in a while.”

My mom introduced her friend to her future husband. Together they had 14 children and adopted one. 7 boys, 8 girls. The youngest girl was my best friend from k-8th grade. The mom pretty much popped out a kid from 1949 - 1966.
They had one and one half bathrooms in the house too.
THAT is more insane than having all those kids.
There’s a family in town that had 19 children, none adopted. Mom and dad divorced when the last one left home. !!!
Not Mormons, not Catholic – but they did have a huge vegetable garden.
My mom had one sister & three brothers. Then my grandparents divorced. My grandmother remarried, and had another kid. Them she and husband number 2 divorced. Husband number three was the best. They were married for 25 years. He was a widower, with five kids. By the time they married, only my mom & aunt were out of the house, so they had 9 kids under the same roof. Oh yeah–they only had 1 1/2 baths, too.
Hmmm… My family has a genetic tendency for lots of kids. Both Great-Grandmothers have about 10 kids apiece. Both Grandmothers have five kids, and my parents have five kids.
Going with the trend, I think I’m going to have two and a half.
