Actually, the pressure waves do cause physical discomfort on my left eardrum. Loud pipes are very inconsiderate. But that’s a discussion best left to another thread.

I did. But I suspect most Harley drivers are unaware of the adverse physical effects their loud pipes have.

HYKS all had motorcycle commercials in the early-'70s. Those were the ones mentioned in the OP. (And commercials don’t have jingles anymore. Ever notice that?) Before I left L.A. a decade ago, I noticed motorcycle commercials. Yamaha ran commercials for the R1 and their cruisers. Honda heralded their goods, and I recall they had low-interest financing and some good deals.

Everyone did tv commercials back in the 70s, but from the 1960s to the early 80s, the Japanese companies were flogging them as transportation, just like cars. In the US, it seems they got relegated to dangerous hobby and advertising switched to the same model as cigarettes during the 80s - lots of print ads in publications targeting male audiences, some billboards, but rare on tv.

As for jingles, that stopped when advertisers began licensing music from artists.
