I am currently reading ''After Things Fell Apart" by Ron Goulart. During my reading sessions, I am getting flashes of another book, which I believe is from a different author. Basically, the story I am thinking about concerns someone (a man, I believe) driving in the US to the southern states (I think, maybe, Florida) but constantly encountering lava flows, earthquakes, etc. I seem to recall that the book was a satire (which may be why it reminds me of ATFA) and that it was by a famous author.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone here?
Thank you,
Bob
Hmmm, I was thinking Damnation Alley, but that’s LA-to-Boston, not Florida.
I think the protagonist of Keith Laumer’s Catastrophe Planet goes to Florida at one point though that isn’t the main plot of the book, just something he does along the way.
Thanks tanstaafl. I am certain that is the book, although, from reading the synopsis, it is nothing like I remembered; certainly doesn’t sound like a satire. I think the reason for the flashes I’m getting must have come from reading both books at the same time. I used to do that (read one at lunch/work, the other at home).
