Suddenly, my mouse is acting up. It’s an optical intellemouse. Last few days, there have been times when the pointer won’t track smoothly across the screen, and sometimes it won’t go to a specific spot. Sometimes it just freezes and I have to reboot. Sometimes, the window I’m working in is swiched with another window, or goes back to a previous window spontaniously, at others it pops up an options box, as if I had just right clicked. To top it all off, suddenly the wheel isn’t working anymore, either by rolling it or clicking on it. Can anyone give me some advice on what’s wrong and how to fix it?
First pass guess, Dave, would be reinstall the driver.
Mine was doing the same thing…if it’s a USB mouse, check the connections and blow the dust out of 'em. Worked for me
YOu might also replace the batteries. Mine was doing that so I installed new batteries and it’s behaving fine now. Threatening to feed it to your cat might work, too.

if it’s cordless, I’d replace the batteries too. I just replaced mine, and I was getting some -weird- ass errors.

Sounds like a USB driver conflict of some kind. Un-install the current driver set and then re-install the latest driver set. Also switch the USB port if possible.
Go to add/remove programs… look for any other mouse software that may be there… anything that says pointing or mouse. If its not intellipoint remove it. If your on a laptope go into the bios and disable the internal pointing device (touchpad or trackpoint). As its an optical mouse, put a sheet of white paper under it and see if that changes anything, sometimes patterns or colors will throw them off. As stated if its cordless, replace the batteries. Try going into display properties and then advanced and turn down the graphics acceleration, that may help too. If your plugged PS/2 (which is the BEST way for a mouse… much less problems then USB) boot into safe mode and try it there… does it work fine? If it does then you know its a software issue… either the drivers or some software conflicting with them. If its still erratic then it HAS to be a hardware issue and the mouse is most likely bad.
Give it some grain and change the waterbottle. Make sure the wheel is oiled or it’ll go squeek squeek squeek all night and you’ll dream you’re trapped in a cheap motel.
The whole cheese thing is a myth, they really prefer peanut butter. But don’t give it too much, it’ll get fat. No one wants a fat mouse hanging around.
When you pick them up by their tails, it really doesn’t hurt. It’s not like they have big spines in their tails or anything. It doesn’t hurt the mouse either.
