Mouse plague in Australia

The article I read a month or two ago, about a plague in the Gold Coast area - mentioned that the current plague was also attributed to a very dry season - the typical rainy season tended to drown a lot of the little darlings in their burrows, so abundant food followed by no drowning rains resulted in a serious plague. Then as food out back runs out, they move into houses where food is more available.
