Mouse-wheel poll: How many of you use it?

Up until recently(during my dark and dreary pre-SD existence) I had only used the mouse-wheel to scroll through weapons while playing various first-person shoot-'em-ups. Upon my introduction to the SDMB I soon realized the the invaluability of the mouse wheel. I also recently recieved an old laptop as a gift from my employer(it’s about three or four years old, three inches thick, and weighs a ton…but I’m not complaining).

The ticker? The mouse I recieved with the laptop lacks a mouse-wheel. The other ticker? I cannot afford a new mouse and it is against my religion to steal one from work (not to mention a ****load a bad karma).

Oh, how I long for a wheel betwixt my fingers.
Onto the poll. After explaining my grief to a friend she exclaimed that she had never used the mouse-wheel and seeing as how she is as endentured to her MB as much as I am to the SDMB, I went on to preach the advantages of a mouse wheel.
“You need never touch that arrow in the lower right hand corner ever again! Think of all the extra time you will save!” I proclaimed.
She was unimpressed to say the least.
Any other mouse wheel subscribers out there? Do you feel the same angst when using a wheel-less mouse?

Oh yeah. I couldn’t imagine not having a wheel. Plus on my mouse (actually a trackball) if I press the wheel in it is a double click. I hate doing a double click so it works out well.

I couldn’t imagine using a mouse without a wheel anymore. MS Intelli-eye explorer. Best mouse I’ve ever owned.

Funny, I’ve had a wheel mouse for two years now, but I never use the wheel. Just haven’t gotten into the habit. I’m more of a keyboard person anyway. I scroll with the “Page Down” key or the down arrow key.

The mouse wheel is my best friend. I used it just now to scroll down past Jomo Mojo’s post.

At this point I find it quite difficult to use a mouse without a wheel. I don’t know how I managed to live before I got this mouse.

My mouse has a vertical wheel and a horizontal wheel. I hate using computers whose mice don’t have both.

A few months ago I inherited a hand-me-up computer at work* and it came with a scroll mouse. Like Boscibo’s, if I press the wheel (instead of roll it) it acts as a double click. I don’t know how long I’ve lived without this thing.

Every day I come home from work and have to use my regular boring mouse. My middle finger is constantly searching in vain for the scroll button. Sigh. I think I know what’s going on my Christmas list this year.

*Someone else got a new (and better one), I got their old one which was considerably nicer (and faster!) than the one I had.

Ditto here.
Couldn’t see the advantage until I got one (out of curiousity) at work, working at home without one is clunkey.

Roll on Christmas!

I have a MS Intelli-Point Track ball. The balls under thumb, and I have a scroll wheel and four mouse buttons. In addition the regular two buttons I have Enter and Back Arrow without touching the keyboard. And just when you thought surfing couldn’t consume fewer calories.

I have one, and use it all the time.

I’m also disappointed this isn’t about the wheel in the mouse cage that the mice run on.

I could never work out what the big deal was, and didn’t think it would be useful, but now I have a mouse with a wheel, I can’t live without it.

I go crazy trying to use computers without the wheel. It’s so frustrating!! My Intelli-Eye is the best mouse I’ve ever owned.

I love my mouse wheel! The only thing I don’t like about it is when I’m filling out forms with drop down menus, and I accidentally start changing parts I didn’t want to while attempting to scroll down the web page. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Sultan Kinkari, I have a mouse with a wheel that I never use. I’ll be happy to trade you.

I do and love it. I also love the double-click button for my thumb. Although I think I’m maxed out for mouse uses.

Occasionally I will still use my keyboard though for opening files, skipping around the page. If I want to enter a new URL I type CTRL+TAB. But that wheel I almost always use.

The scroll wheel rules all. I didnt’ realize how used to it I’d gotten until mine went out. I went absolutely crazy. In my mind I waslike… “you know, youdidn’t always have this.” But still, I was going nuts having it there taunting me. I finally reinstalled and peace was restored to my life…

Ahh, God Bless the Scroll Wheel!

A very fine invention indeed. What would modern technology be without it?

But seriously: yes, I do use it quite often.

There, I just used it again.

On rare occasions at work I have to use other peoples computers…computers that don’t have a scroll mouse. I compare it to…

  • Having to give up my digital cable and use rabbit ears on my t.v.
  • No microwave oven in the house
  • No power steering/brakes/windows in the car.
  • No SDMB on the web:eek:

You get my point. I know I could live without a scroll mouse, but only if it had never been invented!

I love my mouse wheel. I hate when I have to go without. An yes the MS Intellimouse is just goddamn fucking awesome. I wanted to steal it from work when they bought me one. I didn’t though. Though I used to steal those hockey puck mice for mac’s that everyone hates because we always bought better mice for our employees.

Erek

The mouse wheel rules…I have a Logitech Optical Wheel mouse…and I miss the wheel when I go to a computer that doesn’t have one…I keep trying to scroll dammit…
