The SO and I are attending TCM’s screening of Rear Window tomorrow. I noticed that every theatre that’s showing it is showing it at the same times. Is the show being ‘broadcast’ to theatres from a central location? Or does each theatre have a copy that they just happen to schedule at the same times?
TCM does these screenings with Fathom Events (http://www.fathomevents.com). According to the Fathom FAQ (http://www.fathomevents.com/faqs) they do both live and recorded events.
I’ve been to a couple of different screenings, Lawrence of Arabia (Fathom with TCM) and MST3K (Fathom with the MST3K folk). It’s been a couple of years since both, but I’m thinking Lawrence was recorded and MST3K was live. Before Lawrence there was a 30-minute feature on the remastering of, and there were two screenings that day. With MST3K, I think that they were doing their shtick live, and there was just one showing.
Because Rear Window has several screenings, I would bet that the theater just starts the recording at the appointed time(s).
