FOTR coming back to theaters with 30 more minutes!

That’s what’s known as a teaser, right?

FOTR news

Only in 10 cities, only for one night, only on digital screens, but what they hey! I WANNA SEE IT ON THE BIG SCREEN!

Which cities are those?

no idea.

Seattle is one of them - one person on a Tolkien mailing list I subscribe to won tickets for the showing. Which cities make up the other nine sites, I have no idea. The whole thing is basically a promo for the expanded DVD, which goes on sale the following week.

Here’s a list of every theater with a digital projector in the country. Looks like only about 50 nationwide. However, that was at the time Star Wars Episode 2 was released, so there may be a few more now. Maybe you can contact the one nearest you to ask if they know whether they’ll be showing it?

Bah! Rogers, Arkansas has a digital theater and OKC and Tulsa don’t.

grumble, mutter, snarl

It doesn’t seem to be Cinerama, which surprises me, as they’re the only digital projection theatre I know of in town. Any idea which theatre in Seattle it is? I suppose it’s possible that Cinerama hasn’t listed it on the site yet, or that they won’t at all…

I know it’s a promotional event, but dammit I want to see it on the big screen again! AGh!

Sorry for the double-post, but I found something new a second after I hit the post button. Here’s all the cities. Apparently, you can only get tickets via sweepstakes. Great. sigh

Easy come, easy go… I have to vote tomorrow night anyway, right? heavy sigh

Dammit.

Oh yeah. I signed up for that sweepstakes. I guess I didn’t win. :frowning:

Oh, sure. They’re going to have a one-time, one-night only sweepstakes, but this is the ONLY CHANCE EVER to see those thirty minutes. They’re not going to be putting out a video or dvd of the full thing around, say, christmas. No, why should they do that? Just like The Little Mermaid. LAST CHANCE EVER to buy a tape! QUICK! We’re never going to release this tape again, so buy now and buy often!

Thanks. I’ll wait for the book.

Actually, it’s quite well known that they will be releasing the expanded version on DVD and tape. Later this month, I believe. What people are complaining about is missing the opportunity of seeing it on the big screen at the theaters. Some of us still prefer that experience, ya know. Me included.

On a related note . . . 2001 is playing at the Inwood here in Dallas at midnight Friday and Saturday nights. I am so totally jazzed.

Of course, Canadians aren’t even in the running… sigh.

Amazon shows the extended DVD is being released November 12. Best Buy, here I come . . .

My husband won tickets for the showing in Seattle tonight, but we aren’t going. Anybody want them? (Actually I don’t even know what form these tickets are in, or if they’re transferrable…)

minty, don’t get it at Best Buy. There are a ton of online stores preselling it for cheap.

This place has the gift box for $69.

DeepDiscounts has the extended for $25, and the gift box for $59.89.

Best Buy is preordering the extended for $27, and the gift box for $49.99.

Uh…nevermind. Preorder it from Best Buy!

I don’t do shipping and handling unless absolutely necessary, and I further believe that anything less than instant gratification is just a short step away from communism. Sorry, mail order just ain’t my cup of tea.

Sheesh why is this new release so restrictive? Why not have have a full-fledged release before Two Towers? I wouldn’t be surprised if it grossed 50-100 million from die-hard fans wanting to see the 30 minutes on the big-screen. And I doubt it would cut into the DVD sales much since there is so much new stuff on the DVD. It would also be great publicity for Two Towers.

Ideally I would like all three director’s cut versions to be released at the same time eventually since they are, after all, three parts of the same film rather than 3 fully separate films. It would be great to see them all on one day , or at least over one weekend.

i am personally, not going to buy the extended-length DVD, but I would see ANY version (including the original) in theatres again, even though I already have the DVD.

Same principle as the fact that I go to Pink Floyd laser light shows even though I have all their albums…some things you just have to be there to experience in full quality.
