A couple of days ago, at a hotel, I caught a little bit of a movie (annoyingly the on-screen program directory didn’t list the channel I was watching at all). It seemed to be a time travel movie, set near the present day. In one scene, a man is watching from a second story window as his earlier self talks to a woman who is breaking up with him - the fellow watching is apparently feeding lines to the woman through an ear-piece. In another scene, the male character is talking to another guy, apparently a friend or business partner; they mention something about a “holographic <something>”. I know it’s not “Primer” - I’ve seen that one, and would recognize it. Any ideas?
Is it Time Lapse?
Predestination, per chance? There was no coaching but there was a scene with the lead watching his younger self with a girlfriend.
Hm. Possible
It’s possible I was misinterpreting, and the lead was just repeating what he remembered the girlfriend would say before she said it. I’d like to think I’d recognize even a diluted and adapted Heinlein story
Another possibility - thanks.
Based on the trailer, “Predestination” is looking like the best possibility.
Did the cast have British accents?
I assume you did not recognize any of the cast members; is that accurate?
Was there a scene in a barn? Because, if so, a guy I know at another board has been trying to ID this flick since the beginning of the year.
I didn’t recognize the stars or note any particular accent - but I only saw a couple of minutes before I had to go out. The guy I think was the lead looked a bit like Lee Pace (from “Pushing Daisies”). Didn’t see a scene in a barn. One odd thing was that there didn’t seem to be many people around - just the main characters in a public street during the daytime.
People who look a bit like Lee Pace:
JJ Feild
Tom Hiddleston
Zachary Levi
Jack Davenport
Well, I know of a British film that came out a few years ago that is about relationships called About Time. I googled Lee Pace and I don’t think the lead in About Time, Domhnall Gleeson looks like Pace, <shrug> but I figured I’d throw it out there.
How about Looper?
It has Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it with some weird facial prosthetics that kind of make him look like Bruce Willis. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, so I’m not sure how much it fits the criteria in your OP, but I think it does.
Nope - I’d definitely recognize Looper.
Here’s a video with a lot of bits of scenes from Predestination:
It's possible that the person you say looked like Lee Pace is Noah Taylor:Thanks Wendell. I’m still not positive that “Predestination” is the movie I saw a bit of (the clips shown weren’t of the scenes I saw), but the characters do look like the ones I remember. I’ve been meaning to see Predestination anyway, so I’ll let you guys know if it really was the one, after I see it.
I watched “Predestination” yesterday, and really enjoyed it - but it’s not the movie I was looking for.
Definitely not Predestination or Looper, from the OP’s description.
It does sound like “Time Lapse”. I don’t remember a lot of it, but the movie was about three friends who find out a missing neighbour devised a machine that allowed him to take pictures 24 hours in the future, and for whatever reason, they decide that they have to go through the motions of what the machine shows them, so the coaxing part makes sense.
Could be. I watched out “About Time” on Thursday, by the way, and enjoyed it quite a bit, but it wasn’t the one I was looking for. I’ll keep an eye out for info about “Time Lapse” next.
