The rude part is that the CRUX of the play is that Frankie is supposed to be middle aged, overweight, and unattractive, and was played by Kathy Bates on stage, who had done the film Misery, but not been awarded the Oscar, and was not bankable, in spite of fantastic reviews (play and movie). So the casting director cast Michelle Pfeiffer, who was only 33 at the time, and, well, Michelle Pfeiffer. She uglied up by having an outgrown perm held back with cheap barrettes. And she looked sad a lot.

  2. My Fair Lady - replaced Julie Andrews with Audrey Hepburn

Jack Warner wanted an actress with lots of name recognition, and at the time Andrews had not yet appeared in a film. Hepburn’s singing voice was dubbed, even. Andrews did Mary Poppins instead and won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actress.
