Perhaps the ultimate film for piping, which is featured throughout, as this is a drama that takes place in a Highland regiment shortly after World War II.

It’s about the First Special Service Force, a joint US-Canada force of WWII. It depicts the Canadian soldiers marching down the highway to Fort Harrison, near Helena, Montana, to join their American counterparts for training. The Canadians are led by a pipe band playing “Scotland the Brave.”

The movie took a few liberties with actual history, but the First Special Service Force was an actual historical US-Canada unit. To this day, Alberta Highway 4 south of Lethbridge and Interstate 15 to Helena, have been designated “The First Special Service Force Memorial Highway.”

And a distant relative of mine was portrayed by Cliff Robertson in the movie.
