Movie titles that have little or nothing to do with the plot
- A Fish Called Wanda - Wanda is a pet fish owned by Ken (Michael Palin), is eaten by Otto, but otherwise has noting to do with the robbery and double-crossing by the others.
- Chinatown - It’s the street setting of the final scene, but it has very little else to do with the movie, as I recall
- The Sterile Cuckoo - Nobody is sterile, nor a bird, much less a cuckoo. It’s two college students who fall in love. Definitely not a rom-com; it’s a drama.
- Save the Tiger - Jack Lemmon stars as a financially strapped businessman who is in the midst of a midlife crisis, with a failing factory he wants to burn down to collect the insurance. The title comes from a petition he signed.
- Romeo Is Bleeding - No character named Romeo in the film. Title actually taken from a Tom Waits song which also has nothing to do with the movie.
- 8 1/2 - The title is taken from Fellini’s count of the number of films he had directed. Possibly, in a certain way, consistent with the theme of a director who has nothing to say, but still, it gives no information.
- Serial - Martin Mull stars in a midlife crisis comedy set among New Age crazies in southern California. No idea where how the title applies, but it really hurt the box office.
- Troll 2 - Originally produced with the title Goblins, it was marketed as a sequel to Troll but is unrelated to that movie and doesn’t actually have trolls in the movie.
- American Graffiti - Sure, it takes place in America but the role graffiti plays in the plot is far less clear
- Star Wars - It’s more a rebellion than a war, and there’s only one of them
