Indie film from 2005, about a comedian who runs afoul of a local crime boss in small-town Wisconsin; it starred Lauren Holly and Tony Goldwyn, with a soundtrack by the BoDeans.

  3. Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon

An early Liza Minelli outing (1970, by Otto Preminger), it tells the story of three handicapped people who decide to leave their hospital and share a house. It disappointed critics, and did not do well at the box office. But it seemed to be a staple of late-late-night TV movies when I was at university, which is when I saw it. I haven’t seen it on TV since.

  7. The Quiet Earth

New Zealand sci fi film from the 80’s about a man who lives in a world where all humans suddenly disappeared one day.

I remember that movie. I thought Ringo Starr narrated, but after checking IMDb I learned both men (and Alan Thicke) narrated. (There was also the song by Harry Nilsson “Me and My Arrow” that was a hit and used to sell Plymouth Arrows.)

What Might Have Been: Movies Which Replaced Actors (either during pre-production, or in the middle of shooting)

  1. X-Men (2000) – Dougray Scott had been cast as Wolverine, but had to drop out of the film just before filming, due to a scheduling conflict and an injury; he was replaced by Hugh Jackman, for whom it became his breakthrough role.
