movie? phrase

Where did the phrase “resistance is futile” come from? I keep thinking that it came from a sci-fi movie, but I can’t think of which one it was. Also, I think that there was more to the phrase.

Any ideas?

Isn’t that what the Borg always say in Star Trek?

Of course, it may have an earlier origin…

Actually, the Borg say “resistance is feudal”

No, they don’t. They say “Resistance is futile.” Believe me. My mousepad says this as well. In fact, Paramount’s gone so far as to trademark the phrase. Sad, no? I need a new mousepad.

You will be assimilated…

But first he will be whoooooshed.

In HitchHiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, very very much pre-Borg, the phrase “Resistance is Useless” is mentioned, deliberately included as a parody of a standard SF alien-domination remark.

In Dr Who, the Cybermen used the phrase “Resistance is Useless” also. The Borg are not dissimilar to the Cybermen, in fact.

“Resistance is Futile” is probably specifically a Borg thing, whereas “Resistance is Useless” goes waaaaaay back. Like “We come in peace” and “Take me to your leader”.

The Borg aren’t interested in feudalism … they’re Communists.

I thought they said, “Resin tans is few tile.”

“Resistance is futile.” Well, now, that make sence now! :D:D
