Movie Release Dates & 9/11

Something rather pointless occurred to me the other day: Next year 9/11 will fall on a Friday (I think…I don’t have a calendar handy). How will movie studios handle the advertising of movies opening on that date? I mean, won’t it be just a little jarring to hear that big, movie voice booming at the end of a movie preview, “This film opens Friday, September eleventh! Be there!”?

Or is it just me?

It will be on a Saturday next year. The next time September 11 is on a Friday is 2009. Perhaps it won’t be quite as jarring in 6 years…

Or they may just open on Thursday or Wednesday, big films do that occasionally.

Of course, they could also just open a week earlier or later. There’s no law that says that every Friday must see new movies released.
