Ring of the Nibelungen is out in Europe. No mention of Wagner, just Lord of the Rings.
Will there be a US release?
How long does it run? Not as long as the operas I hope.
It ran on TV over here a few months ago and it sucks majorly, IMHO. The actor playing Siegfried (Benno Führmann) is quite famous in Germany in a young, blue-collar, Till-Schweiger-like way. He is not the ideal Siegfried, let me tell you.
The wig he is wearing is so bad it made me cringe the whole time. The dialogue sucks. The special effects are OK, but not great. The writing sucks. They changed a lot of the story when compared to the traditional rendition of the saga, and those changes were not good changes.
It ran as a 2-part TV movie, kind of like the Hallmark productions.
How’s the music? And what does a composer do when he wants to create a new score for that story? Do you try to top Wagner, or just pretend everybody doesn’t have “Ride of the Valkyries” going through his head? (Although the current “Aida” shows that people would rather attend a bland pop musical than a great opera.)
