Movie You Most Eagerly Anticipated

BATMAN.

Was not disappointed.

The Spock stuff (aside from the Uhura romance) is riveting. His beam down…his youth. All they needed was a Sehlat.

I’m not sure we’re talking about the same movie here.

Oy, really? I guess you are welcome to your opinion, but I came here to spew venom at that movie.

I really was excited for it too. I mean really excited for it. But man, I was so disappointed with it as a movie (yes, monuments blowing up were cool visuals), that I always point to it as The Reason to not ever ever ever get excited about a movie again. Ever. It killed big Hollywood Action movies for me. It killed Science fiction movies for me. It killed my faith in humanity that it made tons of money. It taught me a great lesson on skepticism/cynicism. It killed me inside. It killed me for ANY excitement for ANYthing beforehand.

One good thing that came from it though, I was certainly NOT excited about Phantom Menace, so when I saw how much it sucked, I was not destroyed, for i was already dead.

The first movie since ID4 that I warily allowed myself to be the slightest bit outwardly excited for almost 20 YEARS later was Fury Road. And although it wasn’t everything i hoped for, it was still really good in a different way.

Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring: had been waiting for it for a long time. I would have been happy to walk straight back into the theatre and see it again.
Reign of Fire - the concept and poster were great - the movie not so much.

:< Sorry.

I just wanted bang shoot em ups with aliens…and I realized the virus thing was an homage, so that didn’t bug me.

Oh, don’t be sorry. I know now that it was my fault for wanting/hoping for so much more…and I like to think I have learned that lesson, thanks to ID4.

Mars Attacks! Martians! Jack Nicholson! Slim Whitman!

I hated it.

I, too, eagerly awaited Starship Troopers. I figured that they’d have to tone down the politics a bit to make the transition, but that’s OK, because what’s left is a perfect match for the kind of action movie fare that Hollywood loves. Powered armor! Nuclear hand-grenades! Talking twenty-second bombs!

So what do they do? They distort the politics beyond all recognition, make that the focus of the movie, and cut out all of the cool stuff.

“The Doors”. With Oliver Stone at the controls, it turned out to be an absolute disaster

OTOH I always wanted to see a movie on the James Hunt vs Nikki Lauda F1 title battle and with Ron Howard at the controls, “Rush” turned out great. Few minor flaws, Hunt never punched out an obnoxious reporter by the thumbing for a ride scene is great.

The Martian

It was, indeed, everything I had hoped it would be, but feared that Hollywood would screw up.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. When I first saw Raiders, I had no expectations whatsoever…and was totally blown away. I hoped Temple of Doom would live up to its predecessor, but it didn’t. It wasn’t bad…but it was no Raiders, and had Willie and Short Round dragging Indy down.

Val Kilmer was superb though. I don’t know why the story had to be so adulterated. The real story is interesting enough. Fucking Hollywood.
