Movies Named After Songs

American Pie

and I assume Walk the Line is either the title of or a line from a Johnny Cash song.

The Pompatus of Love

Crap, by the way.

Blue Velvet is a clear example of a good move (nonmusical) named after a song.

Sea of Love

Fame?

Yep. They dropped the “I” from “I Walk the Line” for whatever reason.

Down with Love, from the song written by Harold Arlen, and performed by Judy Garland.

Stand by Me

Coal Miner’s Daughter (good movie)

Oh well…this is a thread I composed in my head over a year ago, but never got around to posting. One stipulation in my envisioned thread was that the song couldn’t have been written for the movie – it had to be obvious that the film took its title from the song.
Damn self-slacking…

That happens to me a lot. I have no idea why I’m so timid about starting threads. And I did try to stipulate what you said about the song having nothing to do with the movie. Most of the responses seem to have followed in that vein.

The song was written for the movie (and won the Oscar for best song).

I liked Jumping Jack Flash.

Detroit Rock City, which I stayed away from.

Here’s an obscure one:

Let’s Get Lost, about the life of Chet Baker.

I was under the impression that living in one’s own private idaho was one of those phrases like “not playing with a full deck” that was a euphamism about someone being a nutter, so (unless I’m totally wrong, of course) I don’t think that the movie title necessarily comes from the B-52s song.

ZJ

Convoy.

For those unaware, not only is the title from a song, the whole plot is from the same song.

A Midnight Clear
Standing In The Shadow of Motown

And a new one just out:

Heart of Gold, a concert flick about Neil Young.

Just Like Heaven

Perhaps the best example : Pretty in Pink. Good song, never saw the movie.
