Oh, there’s one line my family uses constantly from "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The
In the movie, David Seville is in traction in a hospital. Alvin causes Dave immense pain, then says, “I’ll fix it Dave!” A moment later, he chirps in his high squeaky voice…
“Nope! Made it worse!”
At least once a week, my wife, my son or myself will try to fix something, then squeak, “Nope, made it worse.”
One of my favorite movies, and I remain astonished that they cast a perfect Ed Koch mayor years before Ed Koch became mayor (of NYC in '78). How in the holy hell did they do that?
Once gave my sister an hourslong (yearslong, really) fit of giggles when, after putting my dog’s dish down, I grabbed my dog’s head and gave him this line - except replacing need with feed. (He wouldn’t eat until you showed him some affection.)
Another thread just brought to mind the one line I quote from A Walk In The Clouds: “Just because I talk with an accent doesn’t mean I think with an accent.”
I’m thinking some kind of dimensional flux that never resolved and if too many people notice/comment on it, it’ll become a “jealous phenomenon” and the movie will vanish, never to return, so “mums” the word, please?
Almost every line of dialogue in that film is either a perfect set-up, a perfect punch-line, or excellent follow-through. If you’re a daring soul, try reading the original novel sometime–then gasp in horror.
We’ve watched Blue Bloods through the current season even though its relentlessly righty slant and old-school “cops is always right, even when they’s wrong” tone grates occasionally. Tom Selleck just manages to keep delivering - I really hope to see him in a few more Jesse Stone movies and in cameos in the new Magnum.
But the one line I’ve adopted is his infrequently repeated, “I’m the [del]Police Commissioner[/del] Dad. I know everything.”
For me, the best line of that movie was (when the poor villagers offer gunman Yul Brynner the pitiful sum they have managed to scrape up by donating everything of value they own):
“I have been offered a lot for my work, but never everything.”
