Yeah, a friend of mine kept telling me to watch it because Leoni was so good. But I never got around to it.
I’ll Fly Away - such a lovely show with a talented cast. I'll Fly Away (TV Series 1991–1993) - IMDb
Based on the reviews, it sounds absolutely briliant!
A sitcom called Spencer. Every episode started with him being sent to the guidance counselor. It probably is nowhere near as good as I remember. But I’d like to know.
And has the great Saturday morning cartoon Thundarr The Barbarian ever been released on DVD?
It is. I see that some episodes are on YouTube. The quality was poor on the videos I clicked on, but you can get the taste of it.
I didn’t bother (re)searching before posting this so I’ll probably be proved wrong, but last time I tried I couldn’t find:
Head Office - great movie
Gong Show movie
The Music of Chance
I enjoyed that show while it was airing, but the series ending cliff-hanger killed it for me.
An old TV series called QED and a made for tv movie called A Step out of Line.
The series ending cliffhanger of Crime Story? That was pretty ridiculous but so was the first-season cliffhanger ending.
Yes, and I own it.
This was going to be my contribution. NEis available on DVD but the original music is gone. The music contributed to the magic of the original show.
The episode of The Simpsons where Michael Jackson guest stars has been removed from the episodes streaming on Disney+ but not, apparently, the DVD releases.
Thanks must order it
This is why I doubt all 3 seasons of American Dreams will ever be available. Season 1 is available on DVD and that’s it.
I’d like to see both seasons of Homefront again too, but only Season 1 is available for that one too, streaming only.
Is this the thread where I ask if anyone knows where I can find a copy of Big with the alternate ending?
While it gets less “cred” these days, NYPD Blue was kind of in that same wheelhouse as Homicide, both were a lot different than typical cop shows, while still being…police procedurals. They both had complex storylines and high quality actors, fairly unusual for police dramas of that era. That being said, while both were good and have been cited as influential to some people who made the really good TV of the 2000s and 2010s, they are still kind of at the early fringes of the TV Renaissance. If you weren’t around when they aired in their original time, and thus lacking nostalgia for the shows, you may not find they hold up that well to modern TV standards (they do still stand out for high quality compared to their 1990s peers.)
There was an amazing Irish comedy series – Trivia (2011-2012) – about a guy obsessed with his pub quiz team. I saw it on Netflix or Hulu once through. Since then it has completely disappeared from any service.
Character actor David Pearse was great in that. I loved that show.
Weird, I have a (admittedly ripped from my personally owned DVD on my media server) copy of the entire series that has all the original music as I remember it from the 90s. Wonder if maybe some of the DVD releases had the music?
My personal contributions:
Equalizer–the original with Edward Woodward. There is a DVD of the entire series, which I purchased, abysmal isn’t even a good word for it. It’s not just that some episodes are missing, entire discs in the set are warped and literally won’t play at all. Reading through reviews, basically everyone who has purchased this box set has complaints like this, the discs were apparently pressed on the cheap by some fly by night operation, and you’re unlikely to get a full working set.
To my knowledge there is no other easy to obtain source of the show.
I would have previously added Columbo for similar reasons–there was a DVD boxed set that was missing lots of episodes, and there were streaming services that had a few episodes but not the whole series. But it looks like (I haven’t double checked) in the fleshing out of Peacock NBC actually has the full show with all episodes up on streaming now.
A show I really liked was China Beach. It probably has music rights issues.
I can no longer think of China Beach without thinking of Jenny Nicholson’s epic analysis of The Vampire Diaries THE Vampire Diaries Video - YouTube
