Movies that are so bad, they're good

Species. Without a doubt one of the best “it’s so bad it’s good” films of all time.

Starring Ben Kingsley, Forres Whitaker, Michael Madsen, Alfred Molina, and Marg Helgenberger. An Oscar winner, an Oscar nominee, a great character actor, and two other serious/respectable actors, in a sci-fi/horror film whose main purpose/plotline is “Let’s get Natasha Henstridge naked - and killing people!!”

And the best part was that this really good cast played it straight. It’s like they all got together ahead of time and said, “Listen, we all know this is a horrible film, and we’re all here just for the money. But let’s play it straight. Let’s act the hell out of this puppy like it’s Hamlet.”

Favorite scene - Forest Whitaker plays an empath. He can look at a room and “feel” the emotions of the people who had been in there. Forest is taken to a train car. The alien bloodily killed a woman there three days before, and the body has just been found. The car is covered in blood, with flies buzzing around the blood and the corpse. Forest takes off his hat respectfully, looks around, and says with complete earnestness and sincerity, “Something bad happened here.”

The giggles go on from there.

You had me at “Let’s get Natasha Henstridge naked.”

But I must see the scene you just mentioned.

I watched House of 1,000 Corpses for the first time a couple weekends ago, and I agree. It was like a train wreck, and I couldn’t stop watching to see what the HELL would happen. Now I guess I have to get The Devil’s Rejects.

That’s Plan Nine from Outer Space.

Hot Rods to Hell. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen this!

I once saw a capsule review of this movie that read, “Arguably the greatest movie ever made about a large, man-eating hog.”

You’re a little late.
