Movies that should never, ever be remade

Manos: The Hands of Fate

For obvious reasons.

Any of the classic Marx Brothers movies.

You are referring to The Court Jester, and I agree, I could just see them trying to push a Jim Carrey into that role.

On the other end of the scale: Plan 9 From Outer Space. Nobody could do it worse.

I agree with so many above and I would like to add Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany’s to the list.

I think some of the “period” pieces would be really difficult to improve on, both because it’d be near impossible to recapture the feel of the times and because, for some, they were so perfectly cast in the first place. The Day The Earth Stood Still comes to mind, as does Easy Rider.

For some reason, westerns don’t have the same majesty now as those of the past. The Searchers should never be remade, nor should Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or The Wild Bunch.

Some classics would just be butchered. Rear Window, North By Northwest, Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, Wait Until Dark… don’t even go there.

In the Heat of the Night - one of my movie favorites of all time.

Rosemary’s Baby.

Or make it hip and current using pop stars like Diana Ross or Michael Jackson…

Rear Window was re-done as well but not well. It had Darryl Hannah and Christopher Reeves. This was after Reeves’ accident.

Oh, I don’t know. Mel Brooks might be able to do it justice.

Christopher **Reeve. ** :smack:

Psycho. Oh, wait, they did that too.

Please, don’t let there be a thread about movies that shouldn’t have been made even the first time.
