Oh, I forgot that movie indeed. It wasn’t very good at all was it?
If you get to watch Yvonne Craig it’s got at least one redeeming quality.
I see them all the time on Roku channels B Movie TV, The B-Zone and Otherworlds Television.
Interestingly enough, both Giant Robo (what became “Johnny Sokko And His Flying Robot” and “Voyage Into Space” here) and Gigantor (or “Tetsujin 28-go” in Japan) were created by the same man, prolific manga artist Mitsuteru Yokoyama. There’s a terrific direct to video animation version of Giant Robo from the 1990s that stars characters from across Yokoyama’s body of work.
I never saw any “Johnny Sokko” until a ‘90s home video release of the series from Orion. These days I believe “Voyage Into Space” is streaming on a few services, if you dare to face the menacing Emperor Guillotine and his Gargoyle Gang once more.
I just watched Fiend Without a Face free on YouTube, I suspect some of these have dropped off the radar because there’s no more royalties to be collected.
FWAF is interesting as a product of its time. In one of the opening scenes a captain is commenting on a major’s benzadrine use and suggests he might try sleep instead.
Maybe Ssssssssss or Santa Claus Conquers The Martians?
The entertaining books Video Trash and Treasures (one sequel) by LA Morse discuss lots of these (occasionally) underappreciated gems.
Shudder streams many obsecure horror and Thriller films.
I haven’t subscribed yet. The list of horror movies is impressive.
The biggest barrier to finding those “lost movies” I saw as a kid is remembering the titles. Once I have that, I’ve always been able to find it somewhere.
I have seen a certain movie a number of times but not for 50 years. There was a small group of people stranded on an island where “killer moles” were attacking. The moles were just terriers with added on fangs, funny as can be. It got to the point where the mole dogs were chewing their way into the building. The people escaped by welding a bunch of 55 gallon oil drums together and crab walked into the water with a moles nipping at their heels.
The Dope is real good at that.
Attack of the killer shrews. A MST3K honoree, and notable in that the much better movie Tremors has basically the same plot.
I watched this every Christmas when I was living in Toronto. It was usually on Sunday afternoons or late at night. I liked the way the Martians used Wham-O Air Blasters to block Earthlings’ memories.
I think I remember seeing parts of this! They didn’t even really try to conceal the fact that they were Man’s Best Friend. ![]()
The Elvira’s Movie Macabre dvd’s are a good source.
Cassandra deserves credit for reviving interest in these B movies.
If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend the straight-to-DVD movie Elvira’s Haunted Hills. It’s not just boob jokes – it’s a pitch-perfect send-up of the Roger Corman Poe movies, with Richard O’Brien even wearing the same style octagonal shades that Vincent Price wore in The Tomb of Ligeia.
