Movies that work better on the small screen

I’m watching De-Lovely, which, IIRC, I liked but didn’t love when I saw in the theater, and enjoying it quite a bit more than the first time I saw it. I think it’s possible that it’s a film that just works better on the small screen.

That is possible, isn’t it? We’re all familiar with movies that you really want to see on the big screen (I’d put House of Flying Daggers, e.g., in that category), and I know I’ve walked out of a theater saying “I didn’t need to see that on the big screen” (Sideways) – but does the latter actually work better on the small screen?

I think most dramas do better on TV. Unless it’s an historical drama with lots of big scenery.

Yeah, this is a musical, though, which generally do better on the large screen. (Hm, very little dancing, though – maybe that’s the difference.)

(They just did the part where they’re intercutting between Cole singing “So in Love” to Linda with the Kiss Me Kate premiere… sniff. honk.)

And I went out to buy the soundtrack just for this bit.

Only to discover that the soundtrack only contains the orchestrated stage one (from the premiere, in the film).

Gah.
