Movies that you feel truly *unfairly* get dissed

What was the name of that movie where some guy chained a lady to a radiator?

The man was played by the same actor in Pulp Fiction. I forget his name.

It was a lot of fun. But everyone hates it. I never understood that.

Could the title have been, “Chained to a Radiator”?

Black Snake Moan.

I so agree with this one.

“Daddy would have gotten us Uzis.”

I believe you’re talking about Black, Snake, Moan which is indeed a great film. I wasn’t aware that it was roundly hated, though I can see how it wouldn’t be to everyone’s liking.

I agree with Signs, and I’ll go ahead and say Mr. Shyamalan’s work in general. Not saying that everything of his is a masterpiece but but I’ve enjoyed much more of his work than not.

I totally don’t get why people hate Crash (Haggis’s that is; I absolutely can see hateabilty of Cronenberg’s ). I know a lot of people *resented *it for going against *Brokeback Mountain *at the Oscars but it seems like the kind of film that people love.

I also thought Water World was a fun flick. A lof of the flap had to do with it’s gigantic budget but I’m not sure why that should have stopped people from enjoying it.

I loved that movie!

I even liked Justin Timberlake in it.

I agree with this. I’ve always given M. Knight a pass because his first round of movies were vastly different from each other, but were inferior to his first that he didn’t get the credit.

From a thriller (The Sixth Sense) to a comic book movie (Unbreakable) to a sci-fi movie (Signs) to a period piece (The Village) and ending with his deconstruction of storytelling and lore (Lady in the Water). I will grant that they all have that “twist” aspect to it, but the road leading to it are all different.

BAHAHA…I love Up the Creek.

Agreed on Daredevil and Signs. And AGAIN…

It’s not the water. It’s impurities in the water. “The water tastes funny”. Also it’s an homage to Day of the Triffids.

Edit: NBK is great. It’s “U-Turn” that is a pile of pretentious crap.

It got a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but I personally enjoyed A Thousand Words, and recommended it to several of my Blockbuster customers.

“Didn’t Blockbuster go out of business?”

You shut your whore mouth.

I’ve always liked Daredevil but I was afraid to say it. I feel liberated.

Not that they’re ripe with modern disdain, but I’ll suggest Tango & Cash and The Long Kiss Goodnight. They’re both good, fun action movies that seem to have been overlooked for some reason.

Neighbors and Continental Divide. Sorry…I enjoyed them, so there. And the ending of Neighbors is great.

Agreed.

Actually… time to cause trouble right about NOW would be perfect for a time-lapsed JG2: Life in Monmouth County post Sandy, post Depression, post Wallstreet implosion.
All the instate politics and ass-kissing small towns have had to do to keep on the good side of the Gov.
Gertie going away to school out of state.

Video stores are gone so… a multiple format shop where she sells lots of unrelated things and the dinner table arguments over what to stock.
example:

Maya- “I don’t want to sell Cigars too.”
Ollie - “But they’re Hot now and people with money want them. It pulls people with money into the store.”
Maya- “I morally disagree with it.”
Ollie- "You didn’t say that when you started selling dildos in the back case.
Maya- "That fills a need.
Gertie- "I’ll say.’
Ollie- "What…?
Gertie- “I found out who my roommate is going to be today.”
Ollie- “No… what did you just say?”
Maya- “Let it go.”
Ollie- “Does she have a dildo?”

simultaneously { Maya - “Maybe…” / Gertie- “Yes.”

Ollie- “You let her have a dildo?”
Maya- “She bought it with her own money.”
Gertie- “I’m going to need one for my dorm room anyway.”
Ollie- “I can’t believe I’m hearing this.”
Gertie- ~as she leaves the table and the room~ “Would you rather I was with boys?”
Ollie- ~Looks at Maya with a perplexed look on his face~
Maya- “Would you rather she was smoking cigars…?”
Ollie- ~Looks at Maya with a stern look on his face~
Maya- ~Mimics his look back, then sticks her tongue out at him and laughs~

The perennial, classic Tomlin/Travolta pairing in “Moment by Moment” was special, with whimsical smatterings of sailing and beach stuff that got me all weak in the knees.

Just about anything “chez Nicholas Cage”.

Vampire’s Kiss is one of my favorite movies of all time. It doesn’t get dissed so much as fails to be noticed at all. It did spawn the Nick Cage meme, however.

I think his Ghostrider movies are two that can be greatly enjoyed as MOVIE: cornball action flicks that totally work on their own terms. His acting is frickin’ hilarious.

Agree on both, 110%

Once Bitten. The only Jim Carrey movie I have ever liked. Especially the dance scene.

I seem to remember *Black Snake Moan * getting good reviews. I assume it bombed, but that’s different.

I’ll agree with* Last Action Hero*. When I watched it I assumed I was going to hate it, but it is actually quite clever, especially the first half, and Arnold does a good job combining humor and action.

I enjoyed “Once Bitten”. OTOH, I also liked “The Truman Show”, so I can’t agree that “Once Bitten” is the only enjoyable Jim Carrey movie out there.

I’ve defended it numerous times on the board. It also has a scene that if it had been in the Netflix series people would be screaming about “THIS SHOW SHOULD GET AN EMMY FOR BEST DRAMA!” (it’s the scene where he returns from a night of hero-ing and you see the aftereffects of what that would actually be like)
I also love The Postman with Kevin Costner. It’s such a fun, unique Post-Apoc movie.

I have to agree. I didn’t think it was as terrible as people made it out to be. Plus I think it set the stage for a lot of other post-apoc fiction where the entire world wasn’t filled with mutants and psycho bandits.
I kind of feel like John Carter was also unfairly maligned. At least I didn’t think it was any worse than half the big budget CGI crap they put out there.
