Movies that you feel truly *unfairly* get dissed

Yes, it’s great! But do people really dis it? Seems more forgotten than dissed.

I liked Johnny Depp in the Lone Ranger, however the Lone Ranger character is what ruined that movie for me.

I like the idea of unbreakable. I sure would like to see what a different director could have done with the material.

Black Snake Moan is probably in my top 10 fun-movies-to-watch list. It’s a fantastic soundtrack too. Christina Ricci at her hottest is a good bonus too.

Alien 3.

A return to the moody atmospherics of Alien, and I loved the body horror of Ripley knowing that her greatest enemy was growing inside her, would eventually take her over and there was nothing she could do to stop it except what she did. It works as both the cancer metaphor that I think it was meant to be (cued by her shaved head) and as a metaphor for an unwanted pregnancy.

Yeah. Loved it.

Black Snake Moan’s marketing was a mess - the movie was really about its soundtrack (as was O Brother, Where Art Thou? to some extent) but the posters made it look like some kind of latter-day blaxploitation riff.

One of my personal favourites, The Blue Iguana, is currently rocking a 0% at RottenTomatoes, but I’d be surprised if one film buff in a thousand has ever heard of it.

I’d like to mention the Matrix sequels. They were clearly a cut below the Matrix; but viewed on their own are decent to good movies. I look at them like Jennifer Lawrence’s brother and or sister. They aren’t giant celebrities and probably work at Costco or something, but I bet they’re OK people.

Besides, how can you describe Highlander II or Howard the Duck if you use up all the good insults on the Matrix sequels?

I don’t know if Exorcist 3 gets flak just for being the third film but it’s great.

Funny story - my husband went to see it in the theatre when it first came out. There were several very “chemically enhanced” viewers also in the theatre, front row, centre.

Then, the scene. You know which one (the hospital scene).

One of the guys stood up, and just started screaming. He ran out of the theatre, screaming the whole way. My husband said that although it did ruin the suspense, it was one of the funniest things he had ever witnessed.
