Movies with an explicit holiday

I’m not talking about the holidays with multiple movies anyone can instantly list (so not Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween and such) but movies that take place on a more obscure one, where being on that holiday is a plot point. The perfect example being Groundhog’s Day. What else is there? Any Arbor Day movies? Take Your Daughter to Work Day? Ash Wednesday? You get the idea.

(Just thought of two: The Fugitive has a Saint Patrick’s Day parade scene and Ferris Buller’s Day Off was what googling showed to be Von Steuben Day.)

The Long Good Friday and Ash Wednesday. And, of course, Independence Day

I believe the climax of Independence Day is actually on July 4th.

I guess The Passion Of The Christ pretty definitively covers Easter?
Easy Rider for Mardi Gras.

Jam (2006) was one of those movies where a bunch of different characters and stories were joined by a common theme; in this case the common theme was how people were spending Father’s Day. (In an ironic bit of trivia, the company that produced the movie was named Thanksgiving Films.)

There was a truly dreadful film about 10 years ago called Leap Year in which the occurrence of 29th February was a central plot point.

The East Germans planned to use the Polaris Naval Mine to destroy the entire NATO submarine fleet on Simchas Torah.

There have been a few movies of Henry V, so we’ve got St. Crispin’s Day covered.

There’s a scene from Moonraker with a street parade from Carnival in Rio. There’s also the German film Kehraus, which explicitly takes place on Carnival, which of course is celebrated very differently in Germany than in Brazil.

Dirty Dancing has Labor Day weekend as the climax, does that count? It’s not really a plot point, but the unofficial end of summer is a big deal at a holiday resort, no?

There have been a batch of British comedies over the years relating to royal events. The most recent one I can think of is "A Private Function’

But I’ve seen several from the early 50s about various characters’ adventures/disasters trying to get to see the Coronation.

The film Patriots Day depicts the events of the Boston Marathon bombing, which takes place on Patriot’s Day, a holiday in Massachusetts

There’s a memorable Yom Kippur scene in Radio Days.

Garry Marshall’s last three films were set at and named for Valentine’s Day, New Year’s Eve and Mother’s Day.

Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights

First Monday in October

In The Godfather Part II, Vito kills Don Fanucci during the Feast of San Rocco.

More Good Friday than Easter (though it touches on Easter at the very end) - and of course Easter isn’t that obscure of a holiday ;).
